I'm with Remy here, what makes the Moria the official knife of the pack?
Personally I like mine, I also like the K-bar, and a few others. A knife is tool nothing more in my opinion.

I myself am kinda biased towards either a swiss army knife or a leatherman.

I don't really care if the Mora is the "official knife" of anything but I will say if you haven't tried them for whatever reason you really need to stop it right now and pick one up.

Hands down they are the most bang for the buck in the knife world. A few years ago I mentioned to some friends in Sweden that I can't buy Mora's in Brazil. A few weeks later a package showed up with two of the rubber handled knives, two red handled #1's, a Craftsman, and a Mora 2000. I already had a clipper, several of the green handled Swedish Army knives, and a wood handled #1. Other friends donated several more of the green handled Moras.

Since I have five of them I made them the official knife of my course. I set them up with a BSA Hotspark on the wrist lanyard, paired with a 16 inch Tramontina machete they handle everything we need to do in the bush. They have since become worn from use and I sold them to former students.

A while back I bought a 780 Triflex Craftsman for T&E and like it very much. I really prefer the carbon blades over the stainless, IMO they take a much sharper edge. I need to pick up five of these before I head back to Brazil.

You have spent $10-$15 on stupid stuff that you have long forgotten, pick up a Mora and you will not be sorry. Mac

Here's my entry into the fray on what a good knife a Mora is. Mind you I don't own a true Swedish Mora, but have a box full of these early '90s Czech Mikov knives that I company I worked for had imported and they are very durable. No Idea what kind of stainless was used in them, but it's tough, resilient and holds an edge well. I had something like 24 of them at one point, as well as a bunch of stag, bone, and wood handled folders, A "Czech Paratroop knife", and some nice Stag hunters.

These little utilities are scattered throughout my kit, tool boxes, and vehicles and I gave or sold a few of them too and nobody has ever complained about them. I have used them in the garden pruning and cutting roots, Laying sod, have cut carpet, thin Metal, rope, cardboard with many of them for years, and have not ruined one yet. And the 2 piece sheath is nice as you can pull the frog off and stick the blade in your pocket.

The story behind these was that Mikov made them for the Finnish Military and there were "extras".

Why one or the other? Why not both PLUS a Mora?

Here's the thing, I wasn't implying everybody has to have one, just that it can be the "Designated Wolf-Pack Survival Knife" any time we get a Newby on here that only has a few bucks to spend on a blade & they're actually thinking of getting one of those "hollow-handle" P.O.S.! Here's another reason, all you '"strong, He-Man types" who have no trouble at all swinging a hefty blade might want to think about this: My wife ordered 3 of these knives as a nice surprise for me & my son, but there was another reason also. You see, even though she's 10 years younger than me, she suffers from various medical problems including a severe form of Arthritis called Fibre-Myalga. That means she can't hold onto, much less use, a Ka-Bar, Rat-7, or any other"heavy" knife we might like to use. However handling the Mora was so easy she was estatic.(Yes , my wife is also a "Survivor-type".) Add to that the fact that many of the posters questioning about the knives are often in their early teens I figured that, for the cost & quality, the Mora was the best one to recommend. Cody Lundin recommends one in his book, & until recetly, used to sell them from his web-site. Mors Kochanski STILL recommends them, check out his book: "Bushcraft"! Tell you what, I'm going to start another thread for all of you to suggest your idea for an "Official Knife". I'll also list the criteria that they have to meet so lets see if you folks will "step up" or not! To be continued...
