    Default a shout from seattle

hello. name is joby. or rain dog if you prefer the nick name

i live in seattle, 31, and just recently got biten by the wilderness self reliance, bushcraft bug. bitten HARD. i cant stop buying books, researching online and trying to make time to get out in the woods. although i am a total novice and right now my biggest frustration is that i cant learn everything immediately and i dont know what to focus on first haha. i can be sort of impatient. heh.
in october i start a primitive living apprenticeship here in washington. very excited.

so hello and thanks for all the information this place is packed with. good to see so many people willing to share their knowledge.

Welcome home and thanks for the Intro! Patience is something we all work on. There is a list of probably 1000 things I want to work on or do. Just have to take your time. Being a total novice is just fine. Everyone starts somewhere. If you have a question try using the Search feature at the top of the page. The chances are very very good there are posts already discussing it. If you can't find what you want then ask. We growl a lot but we don't bite very often.

Take yourself out to a public campground, where you know you can get back home safe and sound from, practice the basic skills like shelter building and firestarting and decide which things you suck at the worst, then focus on improving those. This stuff will come to you faster than you know, ask some of the people who came in here as wilderness newbies, and use the search function in here, you won't wear it out.

    Got questions? Ask.

Best of luck, you'll have fun and welcome here.
some fella confronted me the other day and asked "What's your problem?" So I told him, "I don't have a problem I am a problem"

Normaly I would say "Welcome, make yourself at home", but I guess this is just a pit stop for you. So I'll just say Hi.

I'm no mind reader, but I've got a hunch that unless they allow sat links, he may have been referring to this -

Well then - we expect regular updates, progress reports and pictures....lots of pictures. Have fun with that apprenticeship - it might be the experience of a lifetime for you.
