    Default Long weekend in Canada

So I was planning a 4 day canoe trip this weekend with my son. Walleye season is opening Saturday and the Trout are up. A little cold and blustery conditions won't deter me.

A little snow won't bother us.

A lot of snow and closed roads will.

Biggest snowfall in Red Lake this year! It is still coming and looks as though it will drop another 10cm through the night.

So what now? Will you have to chop a hole in the ice to get the canoe in?

The big lake opened up on the 13th, there was no more snow save the few really shady spots. Shovel and snow machines were put away.

Not overly cold, -5C at night. Snow is wet and heavy. I am going to try to get out to the lake tomorrow and start an abbreviated trip. I could take tuesday off if need be.

If we had of left and then this weather came, it would have been okay. just hunker down and wait it out, but to set up camp in conditions like this would have been too wet and too cold and hypothermia would have been a battle all weekend.

See? (pointing at pictures) That right there folks is why I don't live in Canada. Sure we have tornado warnings out until 2 a.m. but it's 69 degrees here and there's no freakin' snow on the ground. I think I hear a train coming......

That explains why my parents dressed me up as a ghost for Halloween when we lived in Ontario.

that's all it takes? a bit of cold and snow? Hmmm...never thought I'd be hoping for more cold and snow. Just goes to show ya...
some fella confronted me the other day and asked "What's your problem?" So I told him, "I don't have a problem I am a problem"

No need to hope for more. There's enough in that photo for me to maintain a wide "safe zone" from the border.

Snow is almost all melted now, took a drive up the logging road and launched the canoe here to wet a line
Notice the ice in the water :-)
