the more i work my land here by hand, the more i have learned respect for richard preoneke, yes him again, the master of alone in the wilderness, when i watch the vids of him in his first year out there at 52, the dude had guns on him, chopping the wood by hand, axe and saw. I also do the same cuttting trees by hand then bucking into 8 ft sections and carrying back to the homestead at the age of 40, but i think of him out there at 70, 80 and so on bucking all that wood by hand to get thru the long alaskan winter, one true badazz in my mind, don't think i want to be doing it this way when i am 65, but by then i will have a drafy horse to help me, wonder if i can teach him to chop down the tree also, all i can say the more that i ponder on richards life and the more i work my land and realize how much work it is, i grow more everyday in my respect for the land and for that old man,

Probably why chain saws, trucks and hoists were invented. Tough old birds got tired of doing it and figured out a way to do it easier, more efficiently and more cost effectively. There just might be a lesson in that, too, for you.

My grandfather hand felled trees and hand cut railroad ties to sell to the mines. He was tough and wiry and lived to 99. Me? Not so much. Probably won't live that long either.

wait a minute, you think at my age i'm gonna learn a lesson , siily rabbit twinkies are for moderators. serious note, yep a chain saw would help, but i have diffuculty purchasing gas powered equipment, noise and gas and maintaiance and such, whereas my saw and axe just new a few minutes of love. now as i age maybe might get a quad, still cut by hand then, but i don't know would like to use a draft horse also. i get crap from folks all the time about doing things the hard way, but i say whats the rush, sit back and enjoy it slow down drink it in plus who asked you anyways this is what i enjoy (not you them)
