The Lower Chukuni River that flows from Red Lake does not completely freeze over all winter. And it is the first to open right up in the spring.
I been out 4 times now in the past two weeks and this time I remembered the camera. The ducks and gulls are gathering there in huge numbers. Tonight I saw what I am sure was some Herons and even a Loon. There are Mergansers, Mallards and even a few Bald Eagles in the mix too. Last time out I had a Bald Eagle fly 20 or 40 feet over the canoe. Very very cool!
