    Default Need help with arrow velocity......

    I was doing tests at the field with my 48# short bow. The arrow I was using had no broadhead or point, just bare blunt. And also had only two fletchings (very accurate indeed, suprisingly). The arrow traveled approx. 75 feet in 0.68 of a second. I do not know an equation that would give me my arrow velocity in fps or mph. My friend stood a at a safe distance while I fired my arrow into a metal can at excactly 75 feet, and he did the best he could to record it with a timer. We did it three times to insure accurate timing and it was good. Also, I was using a sinew string, and since it is highly elastic and absorbs a small fraction of the energy in the bow, I was thinking I should add about 9 or 10 fps extra IF I was using a fiber string that would not stretch. So any help would be much appreciated.

    divide the seconds into the feet. It's a bit less than 125fps.

    That's 110.29 feet per second if your measurement was correct. No no, don't stand there gaping son, it's not magic, it's just mathematics...it's quite the rage in some high schools these days.
    some fella confronted me the other day and asked "What's your problem?" So I told him, "I don't have a problem I am a problem"

    Here is your equation if you want velocity.

    Code:
    V = D/T

    Velocity = Distance/Time

    D = 75 feet
    T = 0.68 seconds

    75/0.68 = 110.294 Feet/Second
    Good job trax and crash. The others well....:P

    So, restated. Wouldn't VD = time? And, of course, no one has time for VD. Parump bump!

    You did your algebra wrong.

    Code:
    V = D/T

    TV = D

    T = D/V
    If you really want to find out what VD is then do the following.

    Code:
    V = D/T

    TV = D

    T = D * 1/V

    (1/V = V^-1) so T = D*V^-1

    V^2(T = D*V^-1)

    TV^2 = VD
    As you can see it is plain that too much TV results in VD.

    There is a better equation for time, now that I think of it.

    Code:
    Time = Money

    Women = Time*Money

    If we substitute Time for Money in our second
    equation (they are equivalent) that means

    Women = Money * Money

    or

    Women = Money^2 (read that as Money squared)

    Since we know that

    Money = (Evil)^1/2 [That reads as Money = Squareroot of Evil)

    Then we can say

    Women = Evil

    Thanks guys. My arrows appear to be somewhat equivalent to the Native American bows ( A book on "Arrow Poisons" stated that there bows only went 36 meters per second). Needless to say, they seem faster than they really are. Im actually slightly dissapointed in this arrow velocity, but like I said the sinew string plays a role, a small one, but it affects velocity. So im looking at around a 120 Fps with a fiber string- thanks again.
