    Default gear site

I ran across this site and wanted to post it ONLY because of their huge gear selection. I ignore the stuff on the left column and spent over an hour going thru the hand tools and camping segments. Please don't think I support or wish to discuss "the 2012 theories". Just passing info on for other gear fanatics.

Have we kicked around the 2012 can yet?

I have a problem with the ethics of any site that tries to sell products based on mongering fear and I especially have a problem with a site that sells military manuals when they are free to download.

Unless I missed it, they list no way to contact them and have no privacy statement. Even their "About Us" fails to talk about them.

Those are usually key things to look for in an ethical web site. I'm not saying these folks are unethical just to be cautious of this and any site that fails to disclose those basics.

    WHAT???

Don't you realize that Dennis McClung, an expert in the Construction industry and Web Development, has studied the 2012 phenomenon for many years? He's only trying to help us survive the possible end of times in the year 2012.

Maybe a typo? "has studied the 2012 phenomenon for many years? " Could you have possibly meant "for many days"? I do love those "experts" .

Come to think of it, why doesn't Congress just pass a law eliminating the year 2012 from the calendar? Kinda' like those hotels with no 13th. floor. Then, we could avoid the consequences of 2012 all together.

Actually, it was probably only a few minutes. However, DENNIS claims it was for many years, so it's got to be true. Right?

I think every military surplus store I've ever been in has FM's laying around for sale. Usually ~$10 a piece, but you pay that for the time a machine took to print it, as well as the paper and ink, and then staple it with that nice printed yellow bond.

I don't see what's so wrong with putting the manuals online. A lot of people have read FM 21-76, and downloaded a copy. How many more copies have been bought at a surplus store to stash in each bug out bag? Some people would rather buy the hard copy than go to the hassle of having to print/bind it themselves.

EDIT: In fact, you can link to Amazon where you can buy it from the front page of THIS site.

I just don't believe in selling something that's free. How many folks have bought manuals not knowing they can download them? I agree with your example. If someone wants to buy it for the convenience then great. Otherwise a disclaimer needs to be associated with the it stating that it's available free. Then you'll only capture those that want the convenience. You paid for it once with tax dollars. Why pay for it again?

End of rant. I'm sure it's a great site and I don't mean to malign them at all.

I see your point. I'm not that impressed with their ethics, either.
But in the same vein, I'm not gonna pass up that case of .40 cal ammo I can get out of a dude's van for $100 cheaper than the store. But I'm not gonna run in the store and tell everyone there's someone outside with a cheaper price, and the stores not going to, either.

They might buy him out before I can come back with more cash.

I particularly like the "Disney Princess Inflatabed Sleeping bag"... Probably meets most 2012-ers sleeping needs...

If the world is going to end in 2012, then why are we worried about global warming, oil reserves going down, air polution and all the other things. Oh, and all the money spent on saving that catapillar or worm or what ever it was in the Mississippi valley was a complete waste, he is going to die anyway in 2012. Just curious about it, I know I have completely to much time on my hands.

Well, you have to do something between now and then and talking about is better than just bloating in the sun. I think we should start a pool on HOW it's going to end. Zombies is sure to be a favorite. However, I like the red giant theory. I'd like to see the sun expand to encompass the earth. Of course, if that happens, we're hosed because no one has been stocking up on sunscreen.
