I was just wondering. What were those two chemicals that les stroud mixed together to make fire. I think he was in the african serengeti?

One was glycerine, commonly used as a laxative in the form of suppositories(the magic bullet).
glycerin and potassium permanganate (KMnO4)
But I recommend you read the other threads concerning this

Why? Is it because they are dangerouse? Because I laugh in the face of danger! No i'm just kidding.
Thanks
I assume you watch bear grylls too. Have you ever noticed that he eats a ton more food than survivorman?
they renarrated parts of the shows. saying that it was given to him so and so. also a disclaimer in the beining say they receive help
If you have both in your med kit just for the added benefit of being able to start a fire, you are being misled. A) there are better things than Glycerin and KMnO4 for laxative and antiseptic, respectively. B) The two combined produce a highly exothermic reaction that can destroy your pack if they somehow get mixed. C) a butane lighter is better for an emergency fire and gives you more uses.
Bear's show is all scripted. All the things he "finds" like the goat in Scotland and the rabbit in the boreal forest were dropped in by the producers so Bear could show what to do if you came across a similar extreme amount of luck. Les actually has to catch or scavenge his food.

OK so this isn't the most practical way to start a fire, but you have to agree, it is pretty cool. And also do you think his name is bear or did they change it just for the show?

Huh edward michael. thats what i thought.
This forum is kinda dead but i was wondering, does anybody know hot les stroud carried a bag of seal meat on his sled and it never froze? it wasn't close to his body so thats leads me to believe that the arctic episode is fake.
Probably just kept it close to his body under his coat. You do that with small water and fuel bottles. Where did it show him pulling the bag out from? The sled?

Yeah. That makes no sense. See what i think happened is that he kept it in his motorhome fridge. A huge forty foot camper just behind the camera.

i liked the one where the guy skins a caribou or whatever in the freezing cold to wrap up with to stay warm hmm I would asume within a few hours the skin would be frozen solid unless it were tanned lol
you would think so.
one of the things i like about survivorman is that it seems you can see his skills transition from academic understanding of things he'd read or been shown to experience over the course of the series.
