tried to see the storm

so today was beautiful, but the weather channel says major storm is coming, i looked every way i could at nature to try to predict this storm, came up empty, only thing is that the wind is from the east tonight, but the storm is coming up from missouri, the south west of me, need to do more research

Don't worry - the older you get, the easier it will be to predict the weather - your joints will tell you.

He's right for sure. We can smell a storm coming up the Ohio River close to where we both live and leaves, birds, direction of the wind and other stuff I was taught when I was a kid in KY. Didn't have TV, weather band etc. just a radio station and I think he stuck his nose out over Paint Creek.

A simplified discription, would be; Weather HIGHS (good weather ) rotate in a clockwise rotation. Weather LOWS (bad weather ) rotates in a counter clockwise rotation. A storm coming from a SW direction would bring wind direction shifts first comming from the west, shifting Northerly and final shift would have the wind comming from the East, depending on what portion of the storm was passing over you at the time. Also as a storm approaches, cumulous cloud activity would grow thicker and become lower to the ground.

see thats where it gets confusing,winds moving around in a circle so that tells me if the wind blows watch out.i know thats not the case but ya see where i am coming from
can't smell the rain either maybe from smelling the wifes cooking all these years
old bones hurt everyday don't means nothing to mean takes me 5 minutes to get out of bed in the morning only getting worse as time goes on

What I use while on the water, if you put your back to the wind the low pressure system will be to your left. I've used this many times to avoid a storm. also the saying, red skies at night sailors delight,red skies in the mourning sailors take warning. We're expecting storms today and sure as heck the skies were red at sun up

WE - The two things I watch in the daytime are softwood leaves and birds. Higher humidity will cause the leaves on trees like maples to curl topside in exposing the whiter underside. A pretty good indicator that rain is on the way. Birds don't fly on the approach of a storm.

At night I look for a ring around the moon indicating high level ice crystals. That ice means water vapor has increased and there is a good likelihood of rain moving in. Also if the stars are hidden by a cloudy sky and water hits you in the eye when you look up. That's a good indicator, too.

wasn't none of them indicaters no red sky, no halo around the moon(means some sort of precip in 72 hours) and ahem hmm rick ain't no leaves on the trees, canada ain't that much further north than indiana, honestly would have expected more awareness from you on that.

Well how about this? Stand outside. If you get wet it's raining. How's that for awareness. (walks off mumbling) dang smart aleck, anyway.

Only times I've seen halos around the moon, the weather went from extremely cold to almost thawing in mid-winter. Wasn't any precipitation involved, which there often is when winter warms up that fast.
