Thread: What are we surviving from?

  1. #1

Default What are we surviving from?

There is an area of survival we all try to avoid talking about. Self defence.

Natural disasters in recent years have given new insight into what we could face. We all saw the hoards of people standing around after Katrina asking where is the help? We heard about the cops running around taking peoples right to defend themselves and their guns, away from them, under martial law. We all heard about the criminal element using force to take what recourses were there, by force, from those that could not defend themselves.

Look at the fires in California this year. As people were being evacuated there were others coming in to raid houses.

A person is a rational being but people are a mass of lost souls. Dangerous without some sort of control or a reason to follow rules set forth.

Natural disasters are a fact of life and we can only prepare for them as best we can.

What we need to also prepare for is the aftermath. We need to be ready for the what if times. What if the economy collapses? What if there are no cops to protect us? What if there is not help, on the way?

Survival is not an option. It is the only option!

Guns will run out of ammo. When that happens, I have an 80 lbs cross bow pistol. I have a wrist rocket. Cans of bear spray and government issue mace are in the BOB’s and one in the bedroom and living room. Hand weapons are within reach. The masses will not be coming to take what is mine, without leaving a trail behind them.

Making a fire and protecting mine and me from the elements are covered as best I can. It is the, what if times, I now prepare for. I hope you are ready for this.

    Don

Ps: I do not condone breaking the law. If the cops come for my firearms, I will give them the one’s they ask for. I have never felt the police were anything other then, just another guy, doing a job I would not do. They follow orders! Just like my job demands of me. When they are not there, you have to worry.

You are very right I have tried to get just what you said across to all people here and on other sites ... But know this the government will not only come for guns but they will also come for your food , you see if you are found hording then they will take your food ...So those of us who can prepare for our selfs will again pay for those that can not ... As you say it is not just survival for the short term but the long term .... I for one would like to know how many of you are entrusted in more then just short term survival ,but also entrusted in how to hide in the woods and live long term ?????

Being a Deputy Sheriff I understand what your saying, and I am just a guy doing my job as Smok says and would have a problem going to houses asking those who have guns to give the up as I believe in the right to keep and bear arms. So I'd probably quit if I had to that. As for long term I think I would hook up with like minded people to survive and do what needed to be done to protect what is mine, living deep in the forests and mountains would be one thing I'd do if it came to that what I plan to do later in life, for now though I practice my skills and woodscraft to the best of my abilities and keep learning more skills not ony in the forest as try them over and over but here from all you guys.

Giggles is the same person as Otay and has been banned for his foul-mouthed posts. Chris, our Administrator, and the guy who owns this site has even received a death-threat from this individual who is about to find out just how "worthless" cops really are. This is the 1st of two posts I have for you, I hope you find the 2nd one interesting.

1st, just let me say what a pleasure it is to find another "fly-fisher/tyer." Not to many of us here I think. Next I'm going to comment on this post, not as the Moderator, but as Sarge, OK? The problem is your remark: "I have tried to get what you said across to all people here and on other sites..." Therin lies your problem. You're debating the topic. You're also implying by this statement that you know more than those here that don't listen and that implies that they are, at the least, stupid, in your opinion. Not saying that was your intention, mind you, just how it's coming across.

1st, there are a lot of people here who believe that TEOTWAWKI is right around the corner. They just have different ways of preparing for it.

2nd, this is not a DEBATE forum, it's a Wilderness Survival Forum where we all share ideas, info, and have a little fun in the process. If you try "butting heads" here you won't win. If you approach this from the aspect that you're willing to learn from many of the experts here you'll come away the better for it. Feel free to question, but try not to preach and you'll do much better, OK?

I tend to disagree Sarge, I didn't find what he said to imply that anyone was stupid he just stated it matter of factly what he thinks, and I have a ton of wilderness experience and military in it but do not consider myself an expert by any means {however I did pass the quiz with a high pasing grade ) but what does that really say I suck in deep water although I can swim, hate the cold but camp in it anyway, and the desert sucks too but have been there and done that. Preparedness is best in my book. But if the s**t hits the fan ya wanna hook up

Smok, I for one am not offended by your posts, and think you should not stop posting as we need all opinions from all types and walks of life, jobs, and survival standpoints.
Please do not stop posting as I enjoy the banter with you.

Some of us are a little rough around the edges, I tend snap off sometimes but mean nothing by it as that is just me, so don't worry of offending me. Unless you post some tripe like Otay did.

Smok you have a lot to say and do so in apolite manner , your type of input is exactly why I am here I would ask you to stick around and continue sharing with us. Many people are stuck in thier ways but I figure all information is good one way or another. As far as thinking others are stupid when you walk up on a person for the first time you have no way of knowing their abilitys in the case I usually say you may know this but and the run my information by them. As far a someone being offended by remarks we had an old saying in Texas :WHEN YOU CHUNK A ROCK INTO A PACK OF DOGS THE ONE WHO YELPS IS USUALLY THE ONE WHO GOT HIT.

Sarge47,your level of maturity demonstrated in this thread leads me to wonder why you were ever granted moderator status.I observed nothing in Smok's post that should have been construed as offensive.
Smok, I hope you stick around.

Default Should probably keep my nose out of it

I recall Smok made one comment I didn't like. I responded, he responded, I responded. We're grown ups. I think that Sarge probably isn't perfect (sorry bro) but this thing as soon as one person does something I bit wrong...jump down his throat...c'mon

Smok, if you leave, who the heck is Sarge gonna talk flyfishing with? (although catching flies with a fish rod is totally foreign to me)

C'mon, we've had enough real sh** disturbers to last all of us a long time. Let's all suck it up a bit and try to play nice. (Well, I'll probably still be an a**hole, but the rest of ya try to play nice, LOL)
some fella confronted me the other day and asked "What's your problem?" So I told him, "I don't have a problem I am a problem"

And no one's perfect but I'm as close as any of you will see to it... lol...

    Default so often

we digress. Dilli started this thread about a subject that has been discussed before, but possible not enough and it's something that Smok has certainly addressed in his previous comments. So where do we go with that?

What lengths will I go to in order to defend me and what's mine? What will it take for me to share with less fortunates in a shtf situation? When is law and order a tool of society used to protect society and when is it an instrument of oppression? Who left the bathroom without replacing the paper roll? So many intriguing questions....

Smok, your opinion matters as much as any other here, no more, no less. Eveyone should address these kinds of questions, in my humble opinion, to the best of their own ability and to their own satisfaction.

But I really want to know who left the bathroom without replacing the paper!
