    Default Howdy!

Greetings from Oklahoma! I joined the forum about a month and a half ago, posted, got lightly reprimanded for not coming here and introducing myself first, so here I am! I've visited this site a few times for hints, tips, and general learning. I've been interested in wilderness survival since Survivorman and Man vs Wild came on the air. I love being outdoors and am currently trying to learn about animal tracking. If you guys want to know about anything else, feel free to ask. Crash, sorry about not posting here first. :-D

    Cool HI!

Welcome! Now tell us more, like your age, marital status, etc.. We post differently to teen-age-ers, for example, than older folk, & so on. Sorry to hear that Man vs. Wild was on of your influences. Got Elephant poop!

Well Sarge, I'm 24, married, still in college. MvW and SM just got me interested in survival. I think they're entertaining, but could be a LOT more informative!! Feel free to talk to me at whatever level you want, I'm not too picky. Just treat me with respect and you'll get the same for me. I've got to say, props to those who truly know how to live off the land. I believe that during my lifetime society will crumble and I will have to use the knowledge I accumulate to survive, rather than just when camping. It's always good to be prepared!! Anyway, thanks for the welcome! I'm glad to be in a place where I can learn from those who have more experience than I!

Thanks for the welcome Rick! Also, I wanted to add that another influence on my wanting to learn wilderness survival other than MvW and SM is Tom Brown, Jr. I know there are a lot of differing opinions on him, but I think he's a great outdoorsman with a lot to teach and offer. Any thoughts?

Welcome! I agree about Tom Brown Jr. His books are good reads. I can only take so much of the new age stuff though. He has good information for learning tracking. Which of his books have you read?
    Cheers!

    Cool Hi again!

You'll find many on here who hold Tom Brown in high regard; my favorite however, is Cody Lundin. You can find out more on my Blog: http://www.wilderness-survival.net/f...blog.php?b=120

As for MvW, please ignore Bear's advice on both drinking urine straight from the bladder & squeezing water out of elephant turds!

I own and have read just about everything in Tom Brown's Field Guide series. My favorite of his is his Field Guide to Wilderness Survival. However I think the SAS Survival Guide may be the best I've found!

And Sarge, no worries, I tend to find drinking urine and poo-water a little unappetizing!
