Default EPOXY for PLASTIC to PLASTIC the good stuff...????

O.K. I shortened my Gun Boot 7 3/4" and now I need the MOTHER of all epoxies for plastic to plastic. The good new is I have lots of surface area for bonding, the bad news is one side to be bonded is smooth surface.

Now lets be clear I something you have used on smooth plastic......

I don't remember the specific brand, but of all of the epoxies I have used, ones for marine applications seemed to work the best (slow cure time though). You could always use fiber glass.

That would be my suggestion as well, a fiber glass wrap would hold it together and not leak. We used this stuff on lake boats to keep them dry. Worked great.

If you really get desperate you could weld the pieces together with head and after bonding trim off the edge sticking out. This new epoxy seems to weld everything from a broken heart to the crack of dawn and don't take a week to set up.

I have used (clear) epoxy several times in the past few years. Either the 5 minute or 30 minute set up stuff is great. It hardens really hard, is weatherproof, but is not really toolable. It also holds up fairly well in freezing temps. Try to sand any smooth surfaces first to roughen them up. Then remove dust with a damp cloth, let surfaces dry. Wipe with alcohol to remove any oils if you are really worried.

For something toolable (but grey colored) try JB Weld. I think JB Weld was designed for small engines so it has some heat resistance, up to a certain temperature (600F?). There is also a higher temp version of JB Weld.

By toolable, I mean drillable, sandable, etc.

p.s. 2 months ago I found "single use" packs of epoxy. Very handy. I also mix my epoxy in bottle caps, as I only need small amounts. Once opened and then tightly sealed, my epoxy lasts 2-3 years.

Hope - another epoxy that I have used a lot (don't recall if I used it on smooth surface plastic) is JB Weld.

Try this trick we did with plastic. drill holes that match other in inside surface absolute match can be obtained by drilling oneside maybe two places top and bottom then with a pointy bolt in ecah hole that barely sticks out, match up ends and tap hard enough to make centering marks. Drill second side and put bolts in that are snug. Add this JB Weld for plastics and put together. Depth of holes are up to you, but two inches to either side is best. No Bolt Heads, saw them off or use all thread and glue in the holes also.
