Thread: Creating a shift schedule

    Default Creating a shift schedule

Hi everyone! We have a small team in our company, and creating a shift schedule is always stressful. People do not work a standard schedule, some want to work only on weekends, others cannot sleep on shifts. We are currently looking at Shifton for automated scheduling. It sounds good, but I do not quite understand how exactly automatic scheduling works. If the system itself creates a schedule, how does it take into account such features as personal preferences of employees or their illnesses? Can this be somehow configured, or does it just distribute shifts without paying attention to this?

I have been using https://shifton.com/shift-scheduling in my company for several months now, and I can definitely say that this system is very flexible. Shift scheduler is not just “automatic”, it is rather focused on personalized algorithms that take into account the needs and preferences of employees, and do not just force everyone into standard shifts. This is especially important when you have non-standard conditions, like in your company. The first thing worth noting is that when setting up the system, you can enter data on each employee, including schedule preferences, days when they can or cannot work, and even health restrictions, if necessary. For example, if someone cannot work night shifts or has chronic diseases, all this can be taken into account. In shift schedule online, you set up all these parameters, and the system will automatically distribute shifts depending on this data. And this really helps a lot, because if before you had to manually sort out who can go to work when, now the system itself analyzes all possible combinations and offers the best options. But here's what's interesting: in addition to automatic distribution, Shifton has the ability to make manual changes if the situation changes during the process. For example, if someone gets sick or a new employee appears, you don't have to manually re-create the schedule. Just make changes to the employee's data, and the system will recalculate the shifts so that everything remains balanced. And here's another plus: Shifton helps avoid mistakes, such as someone not being out of work or not being overloaded with shifts. The system always monitors the balance - for example, if you set up in advance that no one works more than 5 shifts a week, it will automatically exclude such options.

This all sounds very useful, especially the ability to manually adjust the schedule if something goes wrong. I recently thought about implementing something similar, because in our company there are often emergency changes in schedules, especially when someone is sick or goes on vacation. However, I cannot understand how difficult it is to configure Shifton for such non-standard situations. It seems that it takes a lot of time for the initial setup to get everything working perfectly.
