Hello from madmantrapper
My name is Paul
I am a male pushing 60 years old
I live in central Maryland
I was a manufacturing engineer at a leading company for 24 years, since 2002I have been in business for myself.
I have had first aid training many years ago. The only real survival type stuff I ever learned was in the BSA many moons ago. I have had firearms training and experience but not in the military. I do have a CCW.
I don't have much experience in the wilderness unless being lost overnite once in the mountains in western Maryland counts. I was hunting after working all nite the nite before, fell asleep sitting at the base of a tree. When I woke up at 9:00 PM, cold and shivering, I had no idea how to get back out. I made me a small fire and stayed put til morning when I walked back the truck and headed to the nearest eatery, I was quite hungary. After this I always carried a compass.
I really don't have a preparedness plan of any kind.
I have interest in gardening, hunting, trapping, shooting for fun, tractor repair, fishing. I am a amature blacksmith.
I am here to learn something new, I always have been eager to learn new thing, looking through some of the post, there is a lot to learn here and I may have something to offer.

Morning....Welcome..........

Glad to see you here friend. I'm sure you realize how lucky you are after an experience like that. You could have been much more comfortable and safe with just a few items that weigh a pound or less all together. Your story is one of those that make me think that some basic survival stuff should be taught to all who take one of the Hunter Safety courses that have become practically mandatory today.Thank you for that bio.

Hi Paul!
Welcome to the Wolf-Pack! Don't sell your BSA training short! Think back to what you've learned, even though it's obvious that you don't remember much of it, there's stuff in there that stuck! You found yourself lost late at night in the mountains, cold & alone & came out the other side alive & well because you'd started a fire & stayed put! Excellent! Remember this: S.T.O.P.! This stands for:
S.= SIT!
T.= Think
O.= Observe
P.= Plan
Sounds to me like you came through with flying colors. There are those who've earned the O.A. & haven't ever been lost while going through the ritual! Use the search feature on the "10 Essentials," as well as checking out the sticky on survival kits. The Boy Scout Motto is the right one: "Be Prepared!" :cool2:
