"When trouble strikes, be some place else" :). OK seriously..."Shut up and listen. You can not hear good advise over your own voice".
I'm going to have to go with "Listen, Learn, Practice, and Apply"
In the written words of Douglas Adams; "DON'T PANIC!" :D
Good ones so far.
Stay dry
Be at peace with God, Whatever you consider Him to be. And whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace with your soul.
With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be careful. Strive to be happy.

Be debt free if possible.
A lot of good ones take........seems most minds here think along the same lines.
So, how about, "Don't worry, be happy......your not getting out of life alive, anyway"
Know what you're getting yourself into.
Doing this may keep you from getting into that life or death situation, that you are not prepared for.

but honestly, stay calm and think before acting.
Be aware of your surroundings, stay alert. Eyes open, ears to the ground!

Young man(or woman) if I could instill just one piece of knowledge into you it would be this.
Always be prepared to prevent hypothermia!
It will attack you when you are least prepared to deal with it,and when you think you are least vulnerable to it.

Develope mental toughness. Never quit, never give up, never surrender. Refuse to allow yourself to accept that any situation is hopeless.
Don't worry, relax, and think about what you are going to do next.
Be adaptable, things happen that cannot be anticipated so be able to adapt to whatever comes up.
1. Know how to use every thing in your kit. If you don't know how to use it, it is useless.
2. Keep your kit on you at all times. If you can't reach your kit when you need it, it is useless.
