you are talking about nylon pantyhose...right? From what every woman i've ever known has told me " the damm things are hot in the summer and cold in the winter" .
I would guess that it may trap air if worn under polypro long undies but if I have polypro why am I bothering with pantyhose?
I have been known to wear them a time or two.
They also have a workable use as an expediant belt for your car if yours breaks and you don't have a spare, will at least get you to the nearest parts store
I have a wool pair of underwear. Besides, when you find a pair of panty hose large enough to fit me I think they call it a balloon. Of course, I'd supply the hot air.
Yeah, I wear the panthose, along with a really cool summer frock...but don't tell my wife! :sneaky2::innocent::online2long:
I wonder how well they would work to keep my wool pants from itching?:winkiss:
Well...if you wore underwear....just sayin'.....
Under Armour

Bottoms: http://www.underarmour.com/shop/us/e...ng/1004601-418
Forget panty hose.
Merino, angora, alpaca, cashmere wools don't itch.
The absolute best long underwear you can get is Ulfrotte marketed in the US under the WoolPower name. Merino wool terry cloth weave. Comes in 200, 400, 600 and 800 gram weights. Expensive but worth every penny.
the girls and i use silk long johns.
when working in the forest during the winter i wear patagonias' (they are a bit thicker then silk but are very warm) and wool pants (light or heavy, depending on temp).
I cover my shotguns with panty hose. Keeps the dust off very well. Not sure I would wear them though. I have plenty of other clothes that I would use first.
nylons are great for alot of things. try to stretch them and break them.
youll come up with an idea or two.
plus, they are pretty much free if your girl gets a run in them.
Even if pantyhose worked, I think I'd pass. No place for junk.
I'll just stick to my cotton waffle longies, thanks.
They're more than good enough for a northeast winter and they are practical, affordable, and plentiful.
I've never understood this need for high tech, high cost gear. If I was going to spend the money, I think I'd opt for wool. (I also ride my bike in a t-shirt, cargo shorts and hiking boots, not pretty spandex...)
Years ago my wife and I participated in centuries. 100 mile bike runs. You won't do one of those in cargo shorts, I promise you. Either that or you'll have a lot less skin in the game....if you know what I mean.
I tried pantyhose ONCE. Trouble is I get gas and wearing them blows my tennis shoes off. It's embarrassing, besides I keep hearing banjo music. They are worse than wearing old long johns with a trap door.
Ooooh!!!! Now I've got this mental picture of Coot sitting around the still with the boys wearing panty hose. I'll be all day gettin' that picture out of my head. I need some nyquil without the junk.
didn't Joe Namath promote panty hose in the 70's? I think I remember a commercial of him when I was a kid laying around in panty hose?
Let us pray that nothing ever again demands that much attention.Quote:

If keeping warm wearing panty hose is your thing, more power to you. There are just so many better options available that spending time "preparing" with panty hose seems to be a waste of effort. Sure, know that they are available, but to explore it in depth.......
Besides, Crash in panty hose would be a bit like diving in a dry suit without ankle waits. The first thing you know he'll pass gas and be feet up in the pond.
Well, there's that.
Wear em? Nah..... BUT the "footie" kind are useful put your ground coffee in one tie it shut toss it in your camping coffee pot and boil. No grounds!
I sure they you're talking clean panty hose. 'Cause if you aren't it's the last time I share a cup with you!
Aw man! That's almost as gross. Now I'll be checking for toe jam in my coffee. Thanks a bunch!
You're probably lucky you didn't get clobbered or get hit with a sexual harassment lawsuit.Quote:

Is that a comment?:boxer:
Being a girl and having worn pantyhose under other clothing without eliciting funny looks, I can safely state the heat retention value is not worth the effort of getting the darn things on in the first place!
The idea of wearing panty hose as a wicking layer, was brought up about the Joe Namath era, was supposed to keep the players warm in New York in the cold weather.
Was lots of stuff about them in several outdoor magazines.
Knee high were also talked about.
Well, I tried them both, and you are correct panty hose like a cheap hotel, no ball room.
Knee highs a little better, but for me it seemed like they pulled the leg hair the wrong way, so started to itch.(women shave their legs, maybe this is the reason?)
I do wear white silk socks, under my wool socks, in pack boots, real cold weather.
Long johns are poly blend, am looking for a good set of Merino wool undies. Top and bottom.
Seems as the older I get, the colder I get, but then again now I can afford the good stuff.
My hunting cloths/gear and rendezvous outfit (DW's word) are probably the most expensive "outfits" I own. (why is that you don't even blink on $300 boots, but cringe at $100 dress shoes?)
Oddly enough, some of my warmest long johns were surplus wool/cotton blend 50/50, labeled Drawers- Medium Weight
Got them for a cop friend, that bought surplus stuff for the bomb squad, and about 30 pairs were in a "lot" box.
Should have grabbed more........
Most have been worn out at work (nothing like working on a roof top heating a/c unit in the winter) and retired to rags.
I sure have to agree on the older and colder thing. The blood just doesn’t reach the extremities as well anymore. Buddy at the post offices gives me his old winter clothing when he gets a new issue. The stuff is great for the woods and working, it’s real warm, breathes well, you can move in it and its supper tough. I figure that I lucked out.
