Anyone own one? I am looking for an air rifle for some rabits that wont stay out of the garden. I live in a Sub so .22 or shotgun is not an option. I have not owned a pellet gun in maybe 30 years I am sure a lot has changed. Why do most these days come with a scope? I would rather have iron sight for such a short shot. Anyway looking for and air rifle 1000 FPS for less then $150. Anybody have an opinion?
Will work fine at close range, choose you shot carefully. Cops just shot a young man in Los Anchorage for pointing a Scoped Air Rifle at people inside a fast food joint.
I own a Gammo Hunter 440 in .177,the sticker says 1000 fps.Dont really know if that number is true or not.I also own a RWS 34 in .22 at 800fps.
At 1000 fps the Gammo has quite a sharp crack when you send a pellet.And if you use any of the Gammo PBR? ammo its even louder but brings you FPS up to around 1,100.Now the RWS is much quieter and you could probably shoot that all day with out youre neighbor ever knowing.
A head shot and I think you would be good.I don't eat rabbit so I can't tell you for sure if either one would work....Please do not take this the wrong way but please practice,practice,practice before taking a shot at an animal.Its a lot better to miss on paper than to wound an animal.
Ya could get the Red Ryder BB gun but you'd shoot your eye out!!!
I've got a Beeman Dual Caliber that fits the price you're looking for (Wal Mart) but does not have iron sights. (comes with a scope, but haven't used it) With the .177 barrel it shoots 1000 fps. With the .22 barrel it shoots 800 fps.
The Crossman 10 pump pistol that's been around FOREVER is a good choice too. Around $60 and accurate and reliable and 620fps I believe. Good for rabits, squirrels, etc.

Fried Squirrel and Gravy
1 Squirrel; cut into 7 pieces
1 c Flour; seasoned with

There is nothing wrong with having a scope at the ranges you will be shooting....unless it is point blank then a stick would at least as well if not better. The scope will allow for more precise head shots (eye). Anything in the 1000 fps or better will give you the same supersonic crack that a .22lr will.
.22 will still work as long as you don't shoot long rifle cartridges. One of my neighbors shoots squirrels with a single shot using .22 longs. Quieter than most high power pellet rifles I've shot. The other neighbors think it is a pellet rifle he shoots.

I have the hunter 440 in .177. It will kill a rabbit dead, but if you don't get a head shot it will most likely run off and die like a deer might. It has a crack but not loud as a .22 LR, people might notice. I use the crosman premier field target pellets. 10.5 gr. w' the superdome tip. They work best for small game IMO.
My kid has the Crosman .22 800fps.? I think and it has a wallop but the pellet drops off quick , loses power and much slower. At normal game distances the. 177 penetrates further and hits harder believe it or not.
the crosman powermaster classic pump model 766 is 795 fps and will kill rabbits and stuff as well. Head shots! The 760 is pretty weak, It's the one w' the rectangular pump/ forearm.
I know Crosman has a one pump, spring air model similar to the 440 for around 100.00 at the big box stores. not as good of quality as the Gamo, Beeman or RWS's though. I've seen em listed as winchester, ruger, etc, but believe they are the same or similar rifle just marketed differently.
