A couple of sturdy Everyday Carry
Spyderco Byrd Line Black Stainless Steel Handle Cara Cara ($22)
Ka-Bar Folding Dozier ($19.99)
I was just given a large Benchmade RSK that I would have no problem carrying in a survival situation. I often carry a Zebu slipjoint in addition to my machete, they are a very solid knife. Mac
I've got a C.S. Pocket Bushman. It's the strongest folder I've ever used. Might as well be a fixed blade.
Mac, wish someone would give me one of those.
I'd rather have a XM-18...
Is that the Ontario knife?
I carry a
Kershaw 1060 Black Horse Lockback < $30.00
Schrade Old Timer < $25.00
Buck 501 Squire Lockback < $40.00
That's a Rick Hinderer knife. IMHO there is no finer folder out there. And that my friend you pay for! AND WAIT!!! ($385) Check out the movie of his test!

Hmmm, now let me think....an XM-18 & get evicted for non-payment of rent, or keep a roof over my families head? Crap! Decisions! Decisions! Sorry G.W., I'm sure it's a fine knife & all, but I'll just keep my cheap folder in my pocket & out from under the wheels of my car! :innocent: (Couldn't resit dude.)
I see your puny $385 XM-18 & raise you one of these:

Actually, if you go to the "Survival Knives" sticky & check out Posts #114 & 115 you'll see where one of ur members shelled out a grand on one of their "custom" jobs!:cool2:
G.W., that looks like my kinda knife.
Sarge, check True North Knives. He's got Striders on there that make that one cheap.
I carry a Victorinox Hunter model as well as a couple of Gerber ultralite folders.
My work carry is one of these. A gerber torch II I found at dicks for around 30 on sale.

This makes its way into my work gear bag. It is a leatherman kick. Not all the bells and whistles some leathermans have but more than enough to gett me by.

I really want the new swiss army soldier knife.

I have a custom Benchmade Apparition designed by Pardue / Osborne, that eventually became a production knife (I have one of the originals). http://www.benchmade.com/products/pr...aspx?model=670Darn thing is a very tough assisted opening folder. I carried it every day, while I was in the AF. I used to carry it around here, but the sheeple at school started getting nervous. It would be my first choice of my folders for survival.
Now my everyday carry is a Toollogic SLPro2. http//www.toollogic.com/slpoutdoor.htm I kind of nice having a light, whistle, and firestarter on the knife. Fairly well built little bugger also. Metal body, with a liner lock and no flex. I figured it would be gimmicky, but it is a very useful everyday tool (with a few extras, in case).
I also carry an original Swisstool when I am at my workstudy "job". It has served me well for many years. Anything that say right in the instructions to "hit the tool with a hammer" to use the chisel, (and I have) is pretty tough.
That Swiss Army Soldier looks great but how about paying out
a lot less:

or, a bit more: http://www.knivesplus.com/victorinoxknifevn-53945.html :cool2:
I carried a Case stockman when I was a kid until about 17. That knife did everything I needed. If I thought it was needed I took a hatchet or axe. Now I carry a SAK and a SOG Flash II assisted opener. I use the SAK for everyday use and the other to kinda supplement my carry 45 or walking stick. I still don't baton, maybe with my old Ontario machete with the changes made in sharpening suggested by PICT I find I use it much more now.
Check this one out!

Personally I think they should have also included the magnifying glass, but then that's just me. :cool2:
Being a 1st responder you might be interested in this one.

Among several models of the Victorinox I have an older model of this one that rides around with me most of the time:

I also carry an older Vic/Swiss Army Multi-Tool.
At times I might add the Buck Whitaker Lumina &/or the Buck Multi-tool. :cool2:
While I like the idea of that I already carry a center punch (cost 12 bucks) and we have fire do all the heavy extrication (cutting windshields, tearing cars apart, etc) Don't get me wrong I would love to get one. I just can't justify spending money on it till my punch stops working. So if you are driving in detroit and you see an ambulance chuck out a center punch, come her that week and I will post a pic of my new knife lol.
1st, just let me say that if I ever drove in Detroit I'd probably NEED an ambulance!:blushing: Next let me ask you this, is this price any better?

BTW, here are my reasons for liking this knife(No, I haven't bought it yet, but it's "on the list.") You may not agree, but that's ok too.
1.) Murphy's law follows me around like a freakin' stalker & if I ever was in a car accident myself this could save my life as well as that of my family.
2.) The bright handle would make this knife easy to spot if ever on the ground. I subscribe to Cody Lundin's theory of keeping everything as bright as possible. It's the main reason I avoid handles in Camo or Olive drab as the ability to blend in with the ground could result in a lost knife. I had this happen once with a pen that was designed in camo. Never found it until I accidently ran it over with the lawn mower!:blushing:
3.) It comes with a bright-colored nylon sheath as well!
4.) It's made by Victorinox, need I say any more?:innocent:
This is in my pocket everywhere I go: http://www.swissarmy.com/MultiTools/...product=54751& Hercules.
Next is an old Buck Lockback 110 I have had for years. It's in a belt sheath and is so freaking heavy it's mostly in a drawer...
Also tend to carry an old Schrade lockback that is light and tough with orange scales.
i carry a benchmade griptillian where ever i go. i love it. its a really sturdy knife and it stays sharp for a long time.
I had one that I bought in 1978 that I carried until 1993. After it disappeared, was stolen or I lost it I purchased a new one and am still using it.
Victorinox Midnight Mini Champ
Spyderco Delica 4, with an Emerson hook
Victorinox Swiss Champ
Victorinox Swiss Tool Spirit
Great thread!!!! This is what I missed while I was gone. Great job gentlemen.
My daily pocket knife is a Spyderco "Native" a solid little knife made here in the US.
For me it is a Victorinox Fieldmaster for everyday.
I often supplement this with a Gerber Multitool and a Buck UltraLite.
A Gerber Profile or a Buck Alpha Hunter joins the pack if a fixed blade is needed/desired.
It ain't the fall. It's the sudden stop that gets ya'.
My current SAK http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-gen141.gif has lasted me 10+ years - I have it engraved with my name just in case. (Watch - it'll probably turn up at a murder scene someday if I lose it.....:innocent:) The one before that is "in retirement" and the one before that is gone.
I just hate to lose something I've relied on for years. About a year back, my class ring :smartass: disappeared. I was SURE I had left it on the nightstand when I went to bed, but a dilligent search of the entire house (looked everywhere and under everything :detective:) turned up nothing. I retraced my steps from the previous day, made a call to a restaurant I had eaten at the night before - nothing. Two weeks ago one of the cats was playing with it on the bedroom floor. It was a tearful reunion. :blushing:
Catnip. :innocent: That particular cat doesn't eat tuna. Shrimp, lobster, chicken - yes to all. Just doesn't eat tuna. One of the other two cats will eat anything. Dog food, cereal, tuna. Good thing that he didn't find my ring or it may have gone out in the cat litter.
I am the same way, when I lose something it drives me nuts. As for the class ring, my ex-wife said she lost but she probably pawned it. I lost a Case Trapper in 2005 on a tree planting job in the Atchafalaya Basin in south Lousiana. I knew the last place I used it (to cut the binding off a bag of trees for one of my Mexicans). For the next two hours I backtracked all over the field looking for it with no luck. By noon the next day I had a new one in my pocket, because I fell naked with out a knife in my pocket.
Reward the cat? The cat is the one that took it. You just happened to catch him reveling in the fact that he still had it. Sneaky little beggars, I tell you. That's why I don't like them. They are killers, thieves and good judges of character. I really don't like them.Quote:
