Listen up all you Newbies, Numpties, & Bear Grylls/Les Stroud/Ray Mears/Tom Brown/Ron Hood/Cody Lundin wannabes! And this goes for those of you who DO know your crap also! During one of my phone conversations with our resident mouthpiece: Ken; he mentioned how he'd ordered this Mora knife from "Super-Mod Rick's" web-site http://www.safezonellc.com/mora746.html & how much he liked it. He went on & on, the only way lawyers can, & said that furthermore he was going to be ordering a lot more of them as they were the best knife for $14 (plus S.H) that he'd ever seen. He'd been putting it through some really tough trials (NOTE: not court cases.) I looked at the knife in question, told my wife about them & we ended up ordering 3 of them just a few days ago & they arrived today! I am officially declaring this the "Official Wolf-pack Survival Knife"! These knives are great! They sport a full-tang, rubberized grip for a non-slip grip, and sharp enough to fillet/clean a fish or dress out small game!
What they won't do is chop down a tree, but I use an axe for that anyway. Buy several of these & stash them in your BOB, Your Bill, what ever you call your survival bag. Give them as gifts to cherished family members, old friends, new friends, (forget the folks you don't like!) and be a hero!

I got it Ken - and I believed your posts.

its hard to find the right thing like that isnt it. my knives are getting old now.
my camillus "savage" is getting obvious wear spots on the blade.

my buck w/full tang and rubber pommel cost me 80"bucks" and it dosent hold an edge too well(stainless)

so i may try one of the 14 dollar ones.

The reason that I'm calling this "The Official Wolf-Pack Survival Knife" is because of the following:

1.) It's long on quality & short on cost. While some of the members on here can afford to pay out $50 to $100 for a big 'ole "elephant gutting/Crocodile Dundee " knife there are many young members, or folks with tight budgets who can't. Therefore this knife is the best place to start. Besides, if you lose it you're not out all that much as opposed to that $85 blade you're wearing right now.

2.) The blade will hold up to anything that it's designed to handle. It's NOT designed for prying, chopping, or cutting through heavy bones, but then, most knives should never be used for those purposes anyway. Use a pry bar or axe for those jobs. The right tool for the job is always the best policy.

3.) The Mora 746 has a nice rubberized grip which prevents it from slipping from a wet, slick hand.

4.) It's light weight makes it ideal for packing or wearing in the field. My wife suffers from an illness that affects her grip & she can't hold onto anything very heavy, this is perfect!

5.) We get a lot of "newbies" that are clueless about what kind of a "Survival Knife" they should buy. One of the 1st thing that catches their eye is one of those "hollow-handled Rambo jobs" that run $15 to $20. For the same price they can get one of these & be a lot better off.

6.) The Mora knife comes highly recommended by Cody Lundin in both his book: "98.6 Degrees: The Art Of Keeping Your A$$ Alive!" & his survival school. He also sells the Mora from his website.

So there you have it folks. Don't have a good knife, short on green & not sure what to get, or even if you have a bunch of more expensive ones in your collection, this baby belongs on your belt!:cool2:

I need to also say this: Every time the question comes up about which knife to buy, 50 members give 50 different opinions. This has to be confusing to the person who asked the question. Having one knife to focus on should end that problem.:cool2:

Make sure you check out ALL of the Moras. There are dozens of designs to choose from. There are also a variety of sheaths available, including leather sheaths.

Remy - You've obviously never owned a Mora. Nothing you said is true. I have a 780 that I carry and use it every day. It holds a great edge and it does everything I ask it to. By the way, there is a difference between cheap and inexpensive. They are inexpensive but they certainly are not cheap.

Bear Grylls is the best!! He loves Mora knives for survival!!!

They aren't fragile. They are working knives. Tools. Are they the same caliber as a RAT 7? Of course not. But then they don't cost nearly as much either.

I would never chew through metal with any knife and as far as small trees. I can baton stuff. I guess it depends on your definition of small tree. Can the RAT 7 eat bigger trees? Sure.

As I said, it's inexpensive. Not cheap. Good metal, well made, Nice edge out of the box.

I cannot speak to any Mora other than the red handled S1 (and I am only a recent owner of that one). So far it has done everything I have asked it to. Good for fine detail work. Used it for pruning smaller branches from my Maple trees. I have several knives, and would not hesitate to carry this one with me anywhere. If it was my only knife, I would be quite comfortable with it.

(Deep sigh) It doesn't do me any good to put Remy on my ignore list when you guys keep quoting him, & since it's obvious that he's got his panties in a wedgie over some things just let me respond to several points he's raised.

Q.) Would you go out into the wilds with just the Mora?
A.) Cody Lundin does & it's the only knife he uses. That's good enough for
me; however, I always carry more than one knife.

Remy - I just expressed a different view than yours. I didn't say yours was invalid only that I didn't find truth in it. Que sura.

Native Dude uses an S1 where he lives and I think Mac mentioned he uses a 780 in Brazil, although he appears to have an arsenal of sharps. I happened to respect those guys and I'm sure they put themselves in harms way, just living, far more often than I do.

In the end, if you don't trust it for survival then by all means don't use it. I'm comfortable with mine and don't have any reservations with it.

The original point was that some new members that are looking for a good quality knife but don't have the "long green" that a RAT 7 or K-Bar would cost should seriously consider getting this knife. I love my Mora, but I ain't gettin' rid of "Bull"!:cool2:

i own three. i do think they are great knives for the money, but they are limited. if i had a choice between my mora or any other knife i own i would not choose my mora. if you can save like 30 or 40 more bucks you can get a way better knife like a kabar or anything from ontario knife co. but if you cant afford it then go with a mora.

You got it! That's my whole point! However you bring up another interesting thought; you say you own 3 Moras plus other knives. So you obviously think the more expensive knives are better, why the 3 Moras? Just curious.:cool2:
