my friend saw my coldsteel srk the other day and fell in love with it. he told me he had a knife way cooler though and he busted out one of those wanna be rambo knives...i just felt bad for the guy haha.
Would you guys consider that the best all around survival knife? If not, why not? And what do you think is the best survival knife.
(I'm gonna sign on to hundreds of knife forums just to post that question. Hey! Everybody has to have goals.)
At 9.99 it's a ripoff. You will more than likely hurt yourself when the blade snaps off as you pull it from it's sheath.
As to best all around survival knife..... I have my favorites. And yes I have all of these!

I actually bought one of those from HF. YES I knew it was junk before I bought it. I have seen worse. When my son was in Boy Scouts, many eons ago, one of the kids in his troop had one with a plastic handle.
For what it is, the one I got from HF has held up well. I actually bought it thinking to modify the blade as a spear tip. Carried in the BOB until needed the make the rest of the spear. The handle is held on by a single pin. Figured I would use it on an infrequent basis around the yard until I destroyed it. But, as of yet I have not managed to bust the handle loose from moderate use.
Don't get me wrong. It's still a piece of junk. And, even tho it's holding up well, not something that would ever trek anywhere with me.... :blushing:
I have a Harbor Freight Tools store a couple of miles down the road from me. I have never stopped in, But I have always been curious. Is all they sell junk, or is there goods buys there?
You can pick up some good stuff. They often have sales which make it even better. As with any store, check it out before you buy stuff so you know what you're getting.
I don't know. I think your parameters are already wound just a bit too tight. You might want to use that pocket knife to cut a stitch or two. You gotta lighten up, Howard. You'll hear the black choppers in plenty of time to hide. Besides, my troopers are really pretty good guys once you get to know 'em. Just watch the jackboots when they walk by. After following that link, and seeing what looks to be a gold finished handle, I was thinking of "Pimp-tacular" as a description. OOohhh, all goldy, and silvery, and shiny.
The ad reads: "Rambo wished he had this knife!" OK guys at HF, reality check time! Rambo is a fictatious character made famous by Hollywood & is played by actor Sly Stallone who has enough money to buy the whole freakin' HF Franchise if he had a mind to. :innocent: Even those "hollow handled" jobs were better made than that POC you're trying to hawk.:sneaky2: NOTE: The ad reads "stainless steel", what KIND of stainless steel? Bottom line guys, you want to buy a great survival knife for $10 to $20 check out the Swedish Moras on Rick's store. :cool2:
The best survival knife is the one you have on hand when you have to actually survive, a knife is nothing more than a tool. Any knife with more than a 6 to 8 inch blade is useless for survival in my opinion. A good knife depends on your needs, where you are going and what you will be doing. That is why I have several different knives, but in the end remember: 1. You get what you pay for, and 2. it's just a knife and a tool. The most powerful weapon or tool that you have is your mind and when in the wilds of anywhere a strong will and heart is what will save you. THINKING rationally will save you, preparation will save you.
