I have to say thank you to all the members here. I've learned so much from this forum. All the posts on home made items got me to get into the shed this past weekend. Here's a few things I made from the ideas I read.
The pry bar is a Stanley Wonder bar II. Ruined a band saw blade cutting it! Super hard steel. The stove came from Wally World, $5 in the kitchen gadgets section. I looked for one with drain holes but no luck. It turned a great gold/purple color the first time I built a fire in it. Boils a quart of water in about 5 minutes with dry wood. The striker I made from a worn out reciprocating saw blade. It's a demolition blade made for wood with nails in it. They are 50% thicker than standard blades.

Let me know what you think: I think you did a great job. 1) You taught yourself how to make a few items and that knowledge is yours to keep. 2) You wound up with some new tools. 3) I'll bet you had fun doing it.

Improvements: You bet. Here's how you can improve on all three. First, find a cardboard box that all three with fit in. Place them inside. Seal it and send them to me.

Criticism: Well, yeah. You haven't sent them yet. What are you waiting on? Christmas?

Improvements: Not much, just put them in a cardboard box they'll all fit in and store them. Ignore Rick

Nice stuff. Nice part of doing yourself, can continually "putter" with it to fine tune it to you wants. And watch out for Rick :)

0.050" as compared to 0.035" on a standard blade. It actually works out to be about a 44% increase in thickness.

Woops. Toes aren't going to work for this. Hang on, I'll get a calculator.

What did you use to shape the blade?

A belt sander. A Porter Cable made for wood. I have different grit belts so when i want to use it for metal I one of the finer ones and clamp it upside down in a wood working vise.It has a button on the side to keep the trigger depressed. I have grinders but find them too aggresive for little projects. The sander has a nice flat surface to work against as well as the curved front idler wheel area.

I have a few more of those blades I can sacrifice. I'll make some more and post em. When I post em,the first to speak up gets em. You can pm me a shipping address. I need the practice anyway. Give me a couple days to see what I can come up with. I'm thinking someone will say yeah.

OK so here's the scoop. A guy calls and cancels the job I had lined up for today. It's beautiful out and I suddenly have nothing to really pressing to do.
I went ahead and ground the blades into strikers today. Rick (I need an address) and Grundle have spoken for the first two. Three left to the first to respond. Post here and pm me a shipping address. That wasn't my intent with these but I could see how that would be helpful with a production knife that just came out. As far as these things go... use em, abuse em, or lose em. Improve on it if you want to. Let me know how to improve it myself. My $.02 will give ya change back, but I value the opinion of folks here.

Grey Wolf, I believe when he referred to you it was that you had the 2nd pass around knife. All the strikers I've made so far are spoken for. Post# 26. If after everyone uses/destroys them and reports back all I did wrong, I'll make a new batch with their improvements incorporated. Those I'll post just like these. First people to pm me an address gets it. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Oh I read that wrong, Hey it happens at our age.... I need to get the pass around back from the person who was sewing the pouch to the sheath. The tape used just never would hold. Then I just need to put a new edge on it, then send it out. I put some goodies in the pouch. I even tested it out as a spear (outstanding!). I took it with me on that trip to the Rockies. Then I need to write the review. I for got all about it... But it's better and more equiped than it was.

I would not mind one of them thar knife striker thingys. I have been saving up sawzaw blades, I'll send them to you if you want to make me one.

Some are the wood blades, others are the thin metal cutting blades. I just hate to throw them away.

I could probably do that. I'm just out of blades right now. Send me a couple. If you draw an outline of them on a piece of paper then show where/how to grind them I'll try my best. Send me a pm and I'll respond with my address.

grundle, you could have just asked me what's going on, instead of calling me a "rat". I waited for quite a while until Sarge sent it to me. Would you have called him a "rat"? Again you could have just asked in the pass around thread. It's not like I'm new here. I've been a member here since ( I think) Nov 07. Sharing my knowledge, and helping newer members, like you. No it was a good inexpensive ($20-$25) Knife. Made by Cold Steel, called the Bushman. But grundle probably does need 2 of two of your striker/knives. Tennecedar no worries, what your doing, by sharing is comendable. Glad to have you as a member.

Thank you but I made five and have five names. Each get one. I figured I would package them all up and then label them. I won't know who got what one.

I really don't want commendation . I have much more selfish ambitions. I want feedback!!! These guys can tell me what to do better and I'll take that and make myself a better one. There's catch see? I get the knowledge.

Tennecedar - make one for yourself too. That way you can use it and find out your personal likes and dislikes about the knife.
