Need some feedback (networking?)
Well, it finally happened. I am now unemployed due to not being able to pass the D.O.T. physical because they discovered a medical condition that disqualifies me. I'll disclose that condition only in a PM, but not on the public post. So now, what I thought would be a driving job career until I retire has now been pulled out from under me. Without new training of a scholastic type I am hardpressed to find another 'job'. I am 57 years old and that is kind of out of the question at this point for the amount of time that I have left of my working years.
I am considering doing a website and being independantly employed with that among some other independant employment possibilities. I need some feedback on the website idea though. The idea that I have would be to chronicle (write about) outdoor survival techniques (and/or other areas of survival) after going out into the wilderness and (practicing?) them, coming back home and putting the information up on the website. What I need is what anybody here thinks of that idea as to the feasibility/marketability of it. Would it work, in your opinion? Any other ideas of an independant nature would be greatly appreciated also. You can post here or send a PM to me. I have a lot of common sense and employ that trait everyday. Thanks. :D:cool:
Slam Dunk, in the bag, going to nail this one!
I have been doing some research into government jobs over the last week. I have found out that I qualify as a disabled veteran (hearing loss) for the 10 point veteran's preference on civil service exam scores for competitive civil service jobs. I also qualify under the VRA (veteran's readjustment act) because of my vietnam era service and I qualify under the VEVRAA (Vietnam Era Veteran's Readjustment Assistance Act) and I qualify under VETS (Veterans Employment Training Service), the Government will train me for a new job. DUH!!! I now know the direction I am going to gain new employment.
I want to thank all those that posted in this thread with some very good advice and ideas. In the interim I am using those suggestions to carry me through until I can get a job with the government somewhere and I know of a few areas I'd like to work in with the gov. and qualify for some as I am and some with some additional training.
Whew!! this is going to be a cake walk in some respects. :D
