yes for hiking sorry not be in specific enough... we lived in a small town far away from the city, sorry we don't know the name of the jungle but we used to call it blue east.

...and no on the kilt. The skeeters and noseeums kinda make it uncomfortable. The scorpions in Mexico might make it even worse.

You would be surprised. A kilt is like cargo shorts only cooler. Look at the shorts in your avatar. You don't think that a skeeter can fly up those pant legs. But, since you are cooler, there is less perspiration. Less mosquito attention.
But, that pic is from the Fort Lauderdale Scottish Festival. That utility kilt has more pockets and is more comfortable than you could possible imagine.
But, someone tell me is is Crash saying I look like what ever Bruce Jenner is becoming and is the emoticon whistling at me? If so I am burning my kilt! LOL

Batch, Crash knows I have enough on my plate to deal with. A kilt would be right up my alley for "in your face" behavior. But my tribe has enough to deal with me as it is. I'll give 'em a break for another year or so.
I do try to slow the roll when wives and kids are present.

So Michael, to try and be helpful, I would look into a jungle hammock with bug screen. Maybe a Kelty Redwing pack. Alcohol stove. Machete. Firesteel and Bic lighter. And a pot. That'll get you going. Do an overnight and see how you want to tweek the kit to fit.
Michael, I think probably you talk of an area north of Belize and south of cancun. Possibly Montes Azules. I've went in jungles as far north as Tikal and many others very far south of there. Like you I can't say their names.
It is the rainy time now. You need a tarp and pack cover. What madmax says too. There is much water and rivers in the area of Montes Azules but in the rain the water to drink is easy with the tarp and pot.
Forgot about the pack cover. Yeah. That's a pretty cheap convenience.
Where is Tokwan again? He is our resident jungle expert.
The poor guy has retired and he's inundated with stuff to do. I swear if a guy wants to relax he needs to keep working.
