If there's one thing I've learned it's never to underestimate anybody's ability to dispute anything.
Now you know why I shun from paddling on a Malaysian river? The dinosaurs here are huge....!!!!
Well, it's nice that they are making a comeback in any case.
Hold on...in Miami...are they Crocs or Alligators...? Please educate me if there is no difference..In Malaysia we have croc...made of false garial, the salties (salt water crocs) and the big normal crocs ..we do have a similar to alligator type of crocs about 7 to 9 feet in length..I will check their scientific names and let you guys know.
In Malaysia we have the :-
1. Salt Water Crocodile or Estuarine -This is the fiercest and biggest..known scientifically as Crocodylus Porosus (We called it Buaya Tembaga, Buaya Air Masin, Buaya Katak).
2. False Gharial or Malayan Gharial - with the long snout, you can find them in rivers and lakes...even though man made lakes such as Bera Lake (Tasik Bera) and Chini Lake (Tasik Chini)...so don't get fooled. folks say its harmless, but there have been history of attacks..know scientifically as Tomistoma Scheigelli. ( We called it as Buaya Julung Julung).
3. Siamese Crocodile - a shorter crocodile, similar to the Estuary Croc but smaller in size, very aggresive...but only in fresh water...Scientifically known as Crocodylus Siamensis (Buaya Sungai..some folks says its not dangerous to the size but I know it is..can be up to 12 feet)
You've got American Alligators, which tend to live in fresh water. they are common, and can be found in wetlands all around the southeastern united states.Quote:

We have three species of crocodilians in south Florida. The American Alligator (Alligator mississippiensis), the American Crocodile (Crocodylus acutus), and The Spectackled Caiman (Caiman crocodilus). The caiman is invasive and established in two or three counties. It depends who your asking.
It used to be very rare to see a crocodile in the wild. Now, it is almost a given that you will see one if you go to the right place.
We also have had various species just show up. Two Nile Crocodiles and a Siamese crocodile have been caught in Florida with no explination of how they got here.
Our crocodile is tropical and we lost at least 150 of them in the cold weather of 2009-2010. A year where we had record freezing temps. We had iguanas and Cuban Anoles just falling out of trees dead. It was pandalerium.
Fort Lauderdale:
- Tied record of 12 straight days of lows below 50 degrees (previously set in Jan 1956).
- Tied January record of 10 total days of high temperatures at or below 65 degrees (previously set in 1940).
- Average 12-day temperature of 52.1 degrees between Jan 2 and Jan 13 is the third lowest on record for any 12-day period and the coldest such period since 1940 (record 51.1 degrees ending February 1, 1940).
I think some folks bought them (imported) as pets and when they realized their so called pets are getting too big and might eat them when they were sleeping, they decided to release these Crocs into a waterway...very very irresponsible as I really hate Crocs...where in America are free from Crocs and Alligators?

Crocs in The USA only exist in southern Florida and Puerto Rico. They did find a croc in the Carolinas. But, it swam there during the summer and would have died the winter anyway. Alligators are only in the South and are limited mostly to lower elevations. The caimans are only in South Florida.
None of these animals pose a significant threat to people. We've bathed between territorial bull gators. I have stepped on big gators when I was a kid. I have swam in front of them when swimming plywood to build forts as a kid. We used to plunk them with rocks and stuff to get off of floats and then when the gator went in the water we would swim out to the float.
I only know one person who has been attacked by an alligator and they were feeding it. That was in the 1970's and she survived. Now almost everybody in my group has been bitten by an alligator at least once. LOL You mess with the bull you get the horns. You mess with the gator you get the teeth.

Of the list, only snakes and spiders worry me. For 2 legged, I am always strapped in the woods... weird people are everywhere, maybe even where I want to be.
Havent seen a bear yet, but I reckon if I stay in the woods enough Ill see the whole list.
Black widows are more common than Brown Recluse, but I wouldnt want to get bit by either!!

If I wanna be far far away from the Crocs and Gators....and I wanna visit US, do hiking, camping etc, which state woods would be safest for me, with my experience of course? I have a feeling Hunter might say his back yard....so definitely not there...!

When you get north of those states you have only a few bugs and snakes to worry over and they are probably nothing compared to what you deal with at home.
If you visit the mountainous areas of the east you might run into a black bear raiding a garbage bin or along a hiking trail. They know where the good campsites are and go there to find food scraps.
If you visit the western mountain areas you have black bears and also our "brown bear", or grizzly. When you deal with grizzly you can be assured that you are not the top of the food chain.
Wear orange, hang bells from your belt loops and have some metal ID tags made. That way they can identify you from the bells, orange cloth and possibly find your ID tag in the bear crap.
Do not hesitate to visit over here with the intent of doing some hiking and camping, but be warned, our nation is MASSIVE compared to many others and the distances between points of interest can take days of driving time.
As an example, Winnie lives in England and One Time Star lives in Alaska. Alaska is part of my nation and I can drive there in my car, while England is across the Atlantic Ocean.
However, Winnie lives closer to me (in direct kilometers) than One Time Star!!!
Hey Kyrat, Winnie lives in England and is not part of your nation unless its New England...hahahah (at least I shot you down once...which this was my first and only chance)...but have to admit, that was a good deal of information. Maybe, shud save money for the groups jamboree next year (2015). That way I can get to meet all of you. And if your jamboree is camping out in the outdoors, then it would be fun for me....
But if its not the jamboree...then I would like some advise on where is the best spot that I can go , so that I can meet if not all, most of you.
