Hello from South Florida

Howdy All. I hope to contribute to this fine community as well as learn more about survival and preparedness.
I'm a new to the forum but not to camping, hiking, fishing, hunting etc.
I've always been involved with woodcraft/bushcraft.
I believe in being prepared, locked and loaded.
I'm a recreational shooter when I can afford to do so, I'm a Master Marksman NRA High Power Service Rifle.
I collect knives and coins.
I enjoy metal detecting for fun and profit.
I build scale models from plastic, wood and metal.
I have a back ground in welding, metal fabrication, computers, sales and photography.
I'm a professional musician and also sell music equipment.
I founded a tribute band named KISS ALIVE the TRIBUTE. I perform the role of Gene Simmons and play bass guitar.

I play darts and drink bourbon, tequila and vodka.
I am into being physically fit, I workout 4-6 times per week as my schedule allows.
I enjoy bass fishing on lake Okeechobee and anywhere there are hogs to be had.

Hello Ken, I prefer Jim Beam for everyday bourbon and Makers Mark when money is not an issue.
Jose Cuervo and Sousa Tequila or anything that is 100% Agave that has been aged, Gold or Silver.
As far as Vodka, Veil, Stoli, Grey Goose or Skyy is fine. I usually always chill my liquor in the freezer until its like syrup.
Straight or mixed and ice cold.

Knob Creek, Cuervo, and Absolut. I'm a cheap date.

Ken here is a candy bar in a glass for you there are several versions but this is one I whipped up when i has noting else in the liquor cabinet.

Chill everything first.
3 shots coconut vodka, Smirnoff or better.
2 shots of Omally's White Chocolate Cream.
Over Ice, its like desert in a glass.

You can mix just about any of those flavored vodkas with Omally's Chocolate Cream and its good for a change.

Tonight is Tequila night so I'm got some Cuervo Gold, some limes.... its time to do my arm exercises.

Chill everything first.
3 shots coconut vodka, Smirnoff or better.
2 shots of Omally's White Chocolate Cream.
Over Ice, and in 5 minutes I'll be on my a$$.

Here's one of my recipes for a Whiskey Sour. This is my favorite mixed drink.

Chill the liquor and the glasses in the freezer.

3 shots chilled Jim Beam Black Cherry RedStag
1/2 shot of Triple Sec
Splash of Masters of Mix Lite Sour Mix
Splash diet 7-up
1/4 lemon or orange squeeze and stir.


I also like to chill 3-4 shots of Red Stag in a frosty glass and sip it.

I have a good friend who live up near Lake city and has a small ranch with friendly neighbors who let me hunt any time. They are grateful anytime I take hogs and save their vegetable gardens. I also hunt in the west Port Saint Lucy area and sometimes in the Redlands west of Homestead. I sometimes go to my mothers home in Oh and hunt for 5-10 days at a time in various locations in Northern Oh and near Dayton in the south. Quite frankly the hunting in Florida is not as exciting as other parts of the country. There are no pheasant, no quail, no grouse, the deer are the size of german shepherds, the rabbits are very small and always 100% full of worms with green livers. Its fine if you like turkeys, gators and hogs.

How about you Batch, where and what do you hunt?

You really, really, really, ought to acquire a taste for buttermilk. Or plain old regular cows milk. Or orange juice. Or water. Or even (shudder) soda.

When I ask for a double, I'm ordering an espresso or a scoop of ice cream. Just sayin'.

My preferred hunt is gator. I apply for the STAs. I try to get STA1West, which is off of Southern Blvd just to the west of the Northern entrance to Loxahatchee National Wild Life Preserve. But, I hunt where I get drawn and in the past just where the gators are.

I am a public land hunter mainly and hunt JW Corbett, Dupris, Bull Creek, Big Cypress, Dinner Island, Allappatah Flats up near PSL.

We have a freind that hooks us up with dogs on hogs in Okeechobee and Venus.

We are hunting archery in Bainbridge, GA at the end of the month.

Sounds like you've got it together for the hunting. Speaking of Loxahatchee, I'm actually going to out there bass fishing this Sun. Hog hunting is much more fun when you've got dogs, you've got a good friend. I might give gator hunting a try someday. I'd much rather eat gator tail than wild hog.

I drink double espresso too, it 80 proof made by Veil, it is incredible.
I've been off the ice cream for 3 years now, I miss it but I make up for it by making drinks that taste like ice cream. lol
I still drink soda but its usually diet 7 Up or diet Coke with a little bourbon in it.
When I am not drinking alcohol I drink sparking water, coffee or ice tea. I don't want you to think I need to join AA but, I truly enjoy the drinks I make and often but responsibly.

You going to set in at Lox Road for fishing? Shiner fishing?

The guy with the dogs also does taxidermy if you have a need.

I have been having fits getting tags after the gator hunting shows. I help other people with the tags and I usually skin em out for them. I get pick of meat. It pays to know more than the talk about gator meat. Most people don't know gators have a pair of tenderloins. I think it gets thrown out by many hunters.

The tail meat is what I call backstrap the rest of the tail needs too much work. . After that I go for the jowls. Then short ribs.
Knowing that I agree on the gator over hog.

I do hunt turkey. But, my brother is much more gung ho then me. I just like to be in the woods in spring and he likes calling in turkeys way more than me. But, in Corbett, I believe he is calling in other hunters and so two turkeys are calling in each other. LOL

Dupris north of corbett is sick with turkeys. But, is quota hunt only. Big Cypress Bear Island we have them walking through camp.

Ducks and other water fowl are pretty big and the folks I know that hunt usually limit out in the STA's. I see a lot of Northern Bob White in Dinner Island. Just driving the grades. A lot! Dove fields in Dinner Island and Allappatah Flats seem to be filled. But, I see guys out there shooting a lot and not hitting the doves. LOL

I don't know what other animals you are interested in. If we hunted armadillo we could just use a sack and limit out. Other than that I don't know. Hunting down here is hard, hot, and nasty. We spend a lot more time hunting than killing. :no:

But, we love the woods and swamps.

I'm actually going to be at the end or Loxahatchee Rd on the north end. The bass fishing is good when the water level is low but a 7 - 8 lb bass is about all you can expect.

Yea I know all about the loins, that is the most expensive part. I've had it and it has a better texture than the tail, the taste is the same but it sure costs a lot more. I have not had any gator in quite some time, its making me hungry talking about it. I did not know about the jowls, its probably good too.

Calling turkeys is just plain fun, at the peak of the season the birds are wary and its just a great challenge to get them in shotgun range.

I'll hunt anything that can be eaten. All water fowl, game birds, and doves are a favorite. I think I will try hunting gators someday, I'm just not sure if I'm man enough to skin one.
