Well, we woke up to the first snowstorm of the season. Dropped about 1" on the ground. It won't stick, of course, but it does herald what is to come.
Yeah, summer is finally ending!!!

Hush!!!!!!!!!!!!
SNOW?!?!! Oh yeah.
Now that is just wrong. Totally, completely, wrong.
Heard they got some on the west slope above 9,000'. A small amount forecasted for the prairie on Saturday night by the local weather-guessers (not that that means anything!!!)
A bit too early for my liking, but boy, do I LOVE your part of the country.
Well, it appears I was a bit mistaken. Not only did the snow stick all day yesterday, but I ended up with another almost 1/2" overnight. Even had to scrape my truck's windshield this morning when taking my wife to work. Weather calls for more snow and temperatures no higher than 39* so, we'll probably keep the snow until at least sometime tomorrow.
I think I'll have a snowball fight with my kids later today...
That is even wronger than before. It should not be snowing this early. Baa! Humbug!!
N.C had it's earliest snowfall ever recorded, this past week, or so. (I forget which night.) Half an inch in the mountains of western N.C.

No snow here yet. Somehow I think it may be a while.
Global warming will do that to ya, Crash.
And speaking of global warming....the Arctic ship lanes are no open again and setting new records for ship travel between Europe and China. No more Suez canal and no more Somali pirates (well, until the arctic freezes again).

I love the way they presented that, starting off by saying it was a new first accomplishment allowed by global warming, and then at the end of the column admitting that it was actually the first time it had been done since the fall of the Soviet Union. The Russians had been using the route to supply the artic islands for decades.
But they built some very special ice breakers to do so. Today, you don't need those behemoths to transit through the Arctic Ocean. I also read where a record was set by a container ship for the world's largest ship to navigate through the Arctic route. They saved something like 540 tons of oil by going the northern route. That's a lot of oil. Almost as much as I use to lubricate weapons.
IT'S HEEERRRE! It;s that wet icey stuff, but covering the ground on the high plains.
I am really glad you guys are enjoying your icey wet misery.
Right now it is 75 and sunny in north KY. I have been working in the yard in a tee shirt all AM and intend to continue through the afternoon.
The trap range is open this evening and I might do some trap shooting in a long sleeved flannel shirt after dark.
It will get cold here, but I am not wishing for it any sooner than necessary. These fantastic made to order autumn days are fine with me. I will be glad I enjoyed them mid-Feburary when I have not seen the sun for a month.
We got an inch of wet snow last night.
This is what's expected this weekend.........crazy.

Perhaps instead of plastic pumpkins and chem lights you need to give the kids snow shovels and avalanche beepers.
Just remember, pics or it didn't happen. I need a snow fix!
I haven't been in snow in about a decade now. I honestly don't miss it at all. Guess that's what I get for living in certain areas of the country.
I do miss thunder storms though.
Ah, jeese. Stop by anytime and you can experience both....on the same day.
Well, snow just started. Winnie, I'll take a pic or two If it accumulates and stays long enough.
I wish I had warm apple pie with heavy cream right now.
But the important question is do you have bread, milk and eggs?
Yes, Tomorrow I will have rum soaked raisin and maple syrup on vanilla french toast dusted with cinnamon and nutmeg.
Dang. When the zombies hit I'm headed to your house. Have any idea how many zombies per cricket bat I'd get between here and there? A guy doesn't wan to run short on cricket bats.
Ah Ha!! No milk, bread and eggs needed here. She has accepted the fact that we are only going to be in the 40's, alot of rain and wind with perhaps a light dusting of snow overnight Saturday. Just 30 miles north and west, a different story, could be 8-12 inches of heavy wet snow (heart attack snow). Going to be a good for a book on the couch.

Hey Pal ---- talk to you when you get back from the store.
"They" are calling for 10 - 14" here by the time it stops tomorrow. We'll see.
I'm in the 8-12 inch area. It's coming down like crazy here right now, very large flakes.
Definitely looks like power outage type snow fall, heavy wet stuff.I'll snap a few pictures when it starts building up.
I have to go make sure the snowblower is ready to go than check out the generator.
I'm sitting by my wood stove watching the weather channel right now.I have 3 cord of wood so heat is not an issue if the power goes out.
LLT - The snowblower and genny should have been ready yesterday. Today is disaster day. Remember, never do today what you can put off until tomorrow.
Yeah I spent the morning doing the maintenance stuff. Work has been hell the last few weeks and who'd a thunk it would snow a foot before Halloween.
Had all the parts and oil and gas and stuff. All done now and I'm in enjoying that fire, not out in the cold and wet futzing with the stuff. :)
Comin down like hell. And we're on the ice/snow line again......
It'll melt.............
Dog water dish on porch had ice on it, this morning...will be coming soon......
I just saw on the news over 1 million without power and two dead.
http://edition.cnn.com/2011/10/29/us...orm/?hpt=us_c1
I was without power from 3 am Sunday till 6 pm Tues.
I had to pull the generator carb Sunday afternoon and got that running good. It's only a 900 watt but it powered the fridge and several lights.I have a wood stove for heat.House temp. never got below 66 deg.
Trees are down everywhere. The heavy wet snow took down lots of trees as they still had leaves.
My nieghborhood was a ghost town except for those that had generators.
