He's been kinda quiet as of lately, hope he's OK.
I guess he is still upset and doesn't want to post. Maybe PM him and ask.
Can't imagine how I missed it.
What got his dander up?
He has been on since then, but it was to copy some of the stuff he had posted before to place on another forum.
Evidently I upset him. Didn't intend to, but based on his comments to me, I guess I did. http://www.wilderness-survival.net/f...n-of-Ray-Mears
Well that's a durn shame.
Sorry to see decent people go, over what I think at least, are trivial matters. (in the scheme of things)
Lame. Maybe there's more to it than that. Poor Payne has been ridiculed pretty good, and he's still here (glad he's sticking around). OGL, come on back.
It's sort of the nature of forums and "friendships" in general.
Indeed. There are some who have been here for a long time, and have relatively few posts (me). There are some who have been here a long time and have a gazillion posts (Rick). And then there are some who never post, and those who only stay a short time and post like bunnies while they're here. Takes all kinds. Just like life.
Here's what fascinates me in a dispassionate, clinical way: given that this is a virtual place with virtual people (except the handful that met each other) it's amazing how many of them are quick to take offense and exercise poor self restraint.
Is this a reflection of how they are in "real" life in a face to face interaction with others or does the cloak of anonymity give them the freedom to act out in the way they ordinarily wouldn't? I am just not sure.
But if I had to make an educated guess (and that's all it is), I'd venture to say that people's behavior here closely approximates their behavior in the real world--contrary to what one might expect. IMO, one can only suppress their true nature for so long before it reveals itself.
I agree with you, Benesse. I think people can get (over) excited very quickly, especially when it's a subject they are passionate about, and can fly off the handle. Happens in "real" life too. Take tennis, for example. It appalls me that some grown men act like they are 4 years old on the tennis court when they don't get their way, or when a call may not have been correct. Seriously, it's a game. Get it over it! We don't need any more "John McEnroe's" out there.
Who knew Bear Grylls could be so divisive? Only on a survival forum!
I don't know. I like the act out thingie. I'm a pretty quiet guy in real life although you probably wouldn't know it here. Actually, I think it's probably a combination. Just depends on the personality.
i think several people where being childish and he lost patience. it'll probably return. i mean; you guys still put up with me and i've only got a sense of humor when i'm being a child :D
We don't keep you for your sense of humor. We keep you because you're the only irregular meat sprocket we have.
It's often very hard to convey tone in written language.
My grampappy used to say, "If you meet enough people, one of them is bound to p**s you off!". Apparently he met a lot of people. He seemed p-o'ed pretty often.
Now that right there is funny I don't care who your. Thanks for the morning laugh.
As Don Imus likes to say..."We're not happy 'til you're not happy", and I've known a few people like that.
Hey! I resemble that remark. (where's my ban button anyway?)
1. I am out of the hospital, taking it easy and pontificating various aspects of the business and the shows for the furniture demos.
2. CRASH in NO way or form ticked me off. Sarge did, I believed him when he said he would clear the bear grylis stuff. He dupped me, so much for being called a super mod....super nothing to me. I asked for a simple thing in that Ray Mears post and got fugged with by 2 real NOobs and a mod (Sarge) would not adjust as requested in that first post of that thread and as he stated he would later in the thread. I had no idea he was being an idiot, rather than a mod. I asked for nothing else, no more nor no less. I took him at his word as a mod, not someone who has a love affair with Bear & Equipment and Mora knives, I thought for sure a line NCO and a MOD could seperate personal loves and his job. He is either a mod or is not....act the part or give up the responsability, that goes for all mods of any forum.
The facts are, I was only going to try and help WSF by using a couple unpoisoned threads to promote the site while we are at our furniture and hiking stick making demos.
I hope this clears up the gossip and misconruations. I honestly will not be back here much, just here and there to copy some of my posts for a few other forums.
OGL, I'm Ken. I've been "out of town" for a while, so we haven't met yet. Welcome to the Forums!
I'm President of the "Let's Ban Sarge Association." PM me and I'll provide the address where you can send monetary contributions to help our cause.
Glad you're out of the dreaded hospital and back on home turf, OGL.
And welcome back to wsf, even if you're maybe not staying. I for one, will look forward to your posts if and when you feel like dropping by, letting bygones be bygones. Life's too short to dwell on such things but I understand if that's something worth dwelling on for you.
Here's to your health!
This is so unfair. Rick has derailed just as many threads in his thong as Bear Grylls ever did. Why didn't he ask for no thong pictures?
BTW, OGL, I sent you some Rep for that last post...it was positive.
Just so there is no misconception, I was the one that banned OGL. No one has the right to come on here and start calling other members names. It's a violation of the rules. Banning shouldn't be much of a problem since he didn't want to come back here very much anyway. Only to take items to another forum? Cute.
I wonder what happened to the days when people could beat the hell out of each other, brush the dirt off, shake hands and be done with it. Why did that change?
We are no longer neanderthals. You can contest someone's view without calling them names in the process. The rules are quite clear and specific. And if that weren't enough, we're going to take material from here to post in a competing forum?
I certainly don't expect people to agree with me all the time. But I expect them to do so in a way that isn't offensive or vulgar. Too bad people cannot be courteous to others' points of view. I guess I expect a certain level of maturity...
I hope that never happens to me. I think I prefer neanderthals, they aren't near as sensitive. Don't you see that you are doing the same thing only less direct. It would not be much of a stretch to see Rick implied I was a neanderthal and welderguy guy implies that I'm mentally immature. Probably right on both counts but what's the difference?
Ya know I've come to the conclusion that you can beat the hell out of someone and there still as stupid as before, so why waste my time, its so much more fun for me to play a battle of wits with them even if they are unarmed, than it is to open a can of whoop azz and be sore for a week.
It seems to be more of getting it out of your system and moving on to me. Mentally or physically doesn't matter but things used to get settled which does not seem to be the case anymore. I'm not referring to OGL but just the general principal. Just trying to figure out how people think.
I understood that point, but with some people it does no good so why bother. And as far as on the forum if someone doesn't like me or what I said and they want to tell me I'm an SOB well that's fne just do so in a PM so the whole forum doesn't have to be subjected to there immaturity.
