Alaskan Survivalist Introduction
I hope I get this right, I'm not great with computers and already made the mistake of posting without introducing myself which I thought was not mandatory so I guess I have a little trouble reading too. I make no claim to being overly smart so I just copied intro stuff and will answer each one.
Your Approximate Age - 55
Your Gender - male
Your Geographic Location (small town in West Virginia, family ranch in Texas, or the “the Lower East Side”) - Butte , Alaska
Your Occupation (present and relevant past, such as military, technical, etc.) - Currently a truck driver and have been a Teamster for 35 years but started working young and did many jobs through out the years but as I have gotten older I pretty much stick with driving truck. My father was commercial fisherman and I spent a lot of time sleeping next to a D8 Caterpillar motor so nothing lulls me to sleep like the sound of a loud diesel so I avoid line driving. To many skills to list but mostly construction related, everything from plumbing to heavy equipment.
Your Prior Relevant Training (all types, such as first aid, military, firearms, survival, etc.) -
OJT mostly. Once I learned mechanics it opened the doors to everything else. I never gratuated high school. I went to flight school but could never or will ever be able to avord a plane so that was a waste of time. I played Judo about 4 hours a day, 4 days a week, for 8 years. At this level it became a holistic approach which effects extended far beyond the dojo.
The Nature of Your Prior Experience (Terrain, Season, Number of times/years, and longest duration in Wilderness) - I grew up on a homestead in Kachemak bay. The real kind that you clear, plant and evelop to recieve patent for 160 acres from the Territory. I guess it depends what you call wilderness. I prospected for gold a lot, years at a time. More than half my life was spent off road system without electricity but usually with a small town within 20 miles. Now I live on the road system with all the conveniences but step out my back door and it's wilderness for hundreds of miles.
Your Level of Experience (novice, intermediate, advanced, expert, instructor, etc.) - I never got rated. I think you have to go to some kind of school for that so what ever is below novice would be me.
Your Preparedness Planning (type and level) - A little different from most. I have had some ups and downs in my life and had to start over several times so I try to be prepared to start over. I am getting older so I really don't want to do it again so I have tried to make myself as secure as possible in my current life.
Your Interests and Hobbies (gardening, wilderness skills, urban survival preparation, knife-making, firearms, food storage, backpacking, etc. ) - I have done most things to death and it's just things I do. I still get out weekly and either hike, ski or snow shoe for fun. I camp around in the summer as a side effect of other things I like to do and when the weather is nice Ilike that to. I like fishing and find peace spending my days trying to think like a fish.
Your Membership and Learning Objectives - I don't much care for people and with the exception of my wife I prefer the company of a good dog. People are a plaque on the earth and I figure I should learn more on how people think to be able to deal with lays ahead. Population increases are begining to encroach on my life at levels that cannot be ignored. I don't figure to post much but made a post and I guess broke protocal so hope this makes it right.
