Hiking? Car camping? Lots of choices - depending on what you want. The Florida Trail is about 1400 miles and could keep a person busy for a bit.

We could even see if we could get some folks together for a little weekend trip.
Hiking and maybe an overnight canoe trip. Ocala looks nice and the florida trail sounds good. I just need to find a section with a low denisty of snakes, bears and gators, Oh my
I plan on taking a week or so and flying down.
If some folks wanted to get toghter to tip a few beers around a camp that would be great.
I just need a break from the frozen north.
Looking to go in the next couple of weeks
I'm only a short distance from FL. we got log cabins on the lake, lots of native sites, etc. lots of creeks.. Lake Seminole and the local state parks. and not more than 3 hours from the beach if you still want warmer.

When you decide where let us know,we sunshine people here on the forum pretty much have the state covered.
Well i got the go ahead from work today.
Been looking a bit at the juniputer springs area in ocala national forest.
A buddy of mine might go as well, well see.
Anyone know of any concerns i should have in this area?
Not knowing the area and not having any beta i would be gratful for any info like permits- fees etc.
im thinking i will be going next thursday or so.
If anyone would like to meet up there that would be great, just let me know. My schudel is flexable and im just looking to do some hiking, paddling and general kicking back.
I've camped there. There are some pictures of the place in my album under my profile. I'll probably be there in mid Feb for a weekend. Here's a link with some info. http://www.reserveamerica.com/campgr...&parkCode=jusp Once you nail down when you're going to be there - and if I can swing it - even if not the whole weekend - I'll try and make it.
Services & Amenities:
Alligators
Killer Bees
Fire Ants
Crazy big foreign snakes
Bears
Panthers
You forgot bears. There are bears in the Ocala National Forest.

Apparently cougars are on the rise in Florida as well. http://www.allbusiness.com/populatio...2656504-1.html
Um, excuse me, Mr. Rick....but is your list only for animals?

Quicksand can develop from Alaska to Florida, but hotspots include the marshy coasts of the Southeast, such as Florida and the Carolinas.
Hey....some good news!:innocent:

Yes, Virginia, Florida has scorpions. However, according to University of Florida Extension Entomologists, none of them are able to produce a fatal sting.

Are you coming down this weekend?
cougars / panthers have been on the rise.. there's this long story I could tell you about why my wife doesn't go camping with me anymore (well, a couple actually) that involves a large beastly creature with a howl like a banshee. That was before we got married tho.
scared the bejeezus out of both of us. never heard it anywhere since that night about 15 years or so ago.
Next weekend

but if some folks wanted to meet-up

Its the slow time of the year for my busisness, but i cant wait too long

You're the one doing the traveling. If you want some company just let us know the particulars.
Just bought the plane tickets and car rental.
I will be in juniper springs, Ocala national forest on friday night the 29th of this month till the 5th of feb.
If anyones around there pm me for a phone #
Im going to see the sun, I think they baned it here.
I got caught in some quick sand in Fort Mead, FL. I was around 8 or 9 and I had seen many Tarzan shows. I grabbed onto this twig that was hanging over it and my brother ran to the nearest house that had someone home. The guy told him to have me just walk out as it wasn't anymore than knee deep. LOL
Went to walk through some water to clean off and cut the tip of my big toe off on a broken Coke bottle. :sneaky2:
Huntermj,
Hog hunting is pretty good down here. :innocent:

There! That right there is what I'm talkin' about. That is one unholy creature. It might as well be T. Rex walking across there. 'Course, any animal that likes bacon can't be all bad....right?
I was just wondering how many boots, belts and sheaths I could get out of that thing.
Yikes!!
Im bringing my hammock and sleeping in the trees.
They cant climb trees, Right.....Right?
That is actually a Nile Crocodile with a wart hog. But, it is making its rounds in chain letters as a gator in Florida.
I call the crown around the ears horns and they are more pronounced on crocs. Also crocs have gnarly snouts and gators are prettier.
Snopes hasn't figured it out yet. Think I should tell them?

I'm with Rick on this one. I didn't see any "Do Not Feed the Animals" signs as if they can read. I may be old and tough but all that extra chewing would prolong the agony.
Great! Another illegal alien.Quote:

If you get a chance and want to see what Old Florida looked like, take a trip to Sarasota, to the Myakka State Park. It is cheap, and you will see just about any type of wild life that Florida has to offer in a most natural setting. There is a good canoe trip, on the Peace river that can be taken for next to nothing, with a shuttle not far from Sarasota. Enjoy your trip.
Have a good trip.

Yeah, the Peace River runs right near where I got caught in quicksand.
Rick, I have seen some amazingly beautiful gators. I took pictures of one that had a completely unmarred hide in colors that you could not imagine if you hadn't seen it. A pink side on the belly.
South Florida is its own animal and most say it is a harsh environment. But, from here till May it is a true paradise. I'm heading out in the morning for Bear Island Unit in Big Cypress National Preserve. But, we have to take the long way around to stop at the Oasis Center and register the quads...
Good Lord,
you people make it sound like humans cant survive in florida for 2 minutes.
well im going to prove you wrong, ill survive there for one week.
and ill film it
gatores, snakes,bugs cats, bears,whatever
. bring it on
im looking for it
i have a huge rambo knife with a compass in the handle, i can take anything, :thumbup1:
No, we are just jealous, enjoy yourself
Well except the giant cockroaches
they freek me out
We know you can live longer than 2 minutes. It's 2 minutes and 23 seconds to be exact. Good luck!!!
Well i leave in 10 hours, just in time to. The temp here is droping fast, highs in the single digets for the next couple of days.:cold:
Im already dreding the work load when i get back.
Ill bring back some pictures. and i just bought a flip camera so i will post some shaky, blurry vidieos on you tube.
