Hell from NJ
Hi from beautiful New Jersey,
So far I really like this place with lots of excellent useful information without all the drama of some of the other survival type forums.
I more or less got myself into a survival mindset when Y2K was approaching(I got a generator, stocked food etc) but turned it up a notch after 911.
The current crisis has really woken me up as to what is really important in my life which has been a positive aspect of all this.
I am in my early 50s and I have been working hard at simplifying in every way, trying to save money and resources, trying to pay down my debts, and cutting back on non essential stuff. Even if this crisis passes I think we will be better off .
Anyway, thanks for the opportunity and maybe I can even add some help to the discussion.

Hi & Welcome!

Thanks everyone for the welcome.
I do consider NJ a beautiful place. There are some "great outdoors" areas especially in the NW (on the Delaware) where I am. Lots of bears, deer, coyotes, foxes, eagles, hawks and others most of which I see near every day.
I know that NJ has a bad rap and I have even been guilty of making fun of it myself at times, but I have decided that I will no longer do this.
NJ politics is pretty poor but I have hope for it. More and more I see people waking up in regards to our high taxes, intrusive government, and second amendment issues.
The gun laws are restrictive but we can still purchase handguns and there are some very good ranges here.
I do not get to the cities much anymore, but if you know your way around and what to avoid, there is some good eatin' to be had. So occassionally I will indulge myself and go to Rutt's Hutt or some other equally awesome eatery.
I used to consider moving from here at retirement but we have decided to stay and try to make things better.
Thanks again.

Being FROM NJ, the key word there is from, i did a lot of camping down in south jersey (Delaware water gap and the pine barrens). There are parts of the garbage oops I mean garden state that are nice, just stay away from the chemical plants that run for miles next to the jersey turnpike.

Wow, looks like many here are from New Jersey including myself.
First time I took my wife to North Jersey, she was like, this isn't Jersey, this must be Penn. or NY or something.
I won't move back as I'm down here in Ga and just love it.
In the summertime is was Seaside Heights fishing for blues and stripers. Come fall and winter it was the Pine Barrens for deer. We did venture up to Frenchtown to hunt those monster soybean bucks. In the spring we would hit the Muscanetcong, such a beautiful trout stream, heard it's gone through some changes.
We use to take my 17' kayak and get dropped off way up north, shoot the Lambertville wing damn and a few others then hitting the Trenton rapids. After that, it was all paddling down to Beverly as the Delaware turned to tidal water.
NJ does get a bad rapp, mostly South Jersey.
Hey, so, what exit ya off of?

Welcome to the board.
My family has had a house in Pt Pleasant Beach since the 30's, in fact that's where I was born. My mom was on vacation at the time so while I was born there I was raised in PA. I did get down to the beach for at least a month every summer. Good times. Mac
