Help Needed: Overseas Travelling with Supplies

Hi all,
I'll be living in the wilderness in China for a few days and just wondering how people manage to take equipment which might be considered dangerous (knives, axes) overseas? Would you buy the equipment on arrival?

I sure they have a Walmart....or similar....that will get you enough stuff to camp out for a few days.

You apparently have not seen the charge rate for check in baggage recently.

Even flying inside the boundaries of the U.S. I carry nothing and make a bee-line for the nearest Cabbalas', Bas Pro or Walmart as soon as my feet touch the ground.

I am certain there would be a huge bazar with everything you need somewhere near your landing area.

In your suitcases you should be able to carry knives, pills, etc. I can't say what is legal. In your carry on you can't carry hardly anything. Should be 35-50 per suitcase and maybe 10-15 discount if you pay for it in advance before you arrive at the airport. Each airline is a little different. Buy the tickets way in advance if you want a better price.

You may well want to check what is legal in China. Make certain you know where the U.S. Embassy is.

Thanks. Good point. Sometimes you take things for granted.

BUY it there, you like pay very cheaply for it too, a lot of the most well known brand have their production in China. rather do that than risk anything, china is pretty strict with what you can take in on a plane.

Will you have a translator? Have him take you to a store. Last time I was in Shenzhen, almost 2 years ago, they had stores.... with lots of stuff in them.... even camping stuff. Felt like I was in Eastern Germany in the middle 90's.

Yeah, that's one of my fears. Getting winded before I get there. In my defense, there has to be a LOT of stairs to get to heaven.
