Rabies!!!!!!......

For those that did not know, A puppy of 3 months old can get Rabies, And they don't immunize them against it till 4 or 5 months old. I found this out because My son, two nephews and myself were bitten by this puppy all within 24 hours of it dying.
So lesson learned is this... The day you get a puppy take it to the vet, second thing I learned is, a puppy as young as 6 weeks can contract rabies. So be careful of where when and who you get a puppy from.
Sad thing was this was a stray we took in and wanted to give a home too. so from today on it's BANG... dog gone!!!!!

My son has already started the shots he has had his second dose Monday, the rest of us were told to wait till the results came back in, got them this morning and it was positive, Now we are trying to find enough vaccine to treat all of us and there is none local so we will be going to Dallas in the morning to receive our first dose!!!

You are all in my prayers as well. Post-exposure prophylaxis has a reputation of being a bit of an ordeal though I have not known anybody who has undergone it. The efficacy is said to be very good so I trust your outlooks are positive.

The way the procedure was explained to me is, The dosage is calculated by body weight, the first shot is a two part deal, first shot is given into the bite directly into the hole or holes made by the teeth, the second shot goes into the opposite arm, then there is one shot 3 days after that, then 7 days, then 14 days, if you wait longer than 10 days to start the series or have a suppressed immune system they recommend getting a 5th shot on day 28 shots 2 thru 4 or 5 are all in the arm.

Right; If I understand it the first series is vaccination dosages (human diploid cell inoculation) and the second series is Rabies Immuneglobulin.
