Is it legal to ship a BB gun?

I ordered a Co2 powered BB piston from Amazon.com. According to the tracking information the BB gun made it to the
Illinois state line and was returned to Amazon. Not sure what will happen next.

Funny part is, I didn't plan to use it as a BB gun. Plan was an industrial application to dispense Co2 gas into an atmosphere chamber for testing Co2 gas detectors. Can you believe schools are going or already require Co2 gas detectors in class rooms.
To much Co2 in the class room may effect learning in some students.

I'll bet high levels of Co2 gas is what made me fall asleep in class years ago.

There is a Gander Mountain store in the area. Maybe I'll try buying a Co2 BB gun there.

Illinois has some of the strictest gun, and weapon laws anywhere.
She what they say at Gander Mountain....although they haven't had too many guns guy there that know squat for a while

Ask Amazon why it was returned. According to the Amazon web site calibers of .180 and above cannot be shipped to Illinois. However, .177 can be.

Not sure what is up. Tracking says the BB gun is 15 miles from my home right now. Maybe someone here will need to sign for the package to make sure some kid isn't receiving the package. The BB gun look like a real gun. I'll keep you posted.

Strictest gun and weapon laws AND the highest crime rate. Arm more citizens and the crime rate will go down !

Restrictions on firearms is understandable but .180 Cal air?
This may seem a bit political but a few years ago I read about how in Chicago people with criminal records were far more likely not to serve jail time or even be convicted if arrested in possession of a firearm than in most other parts of the country. That seemed to me closer to the core of the violence issue than .180 Cal air guns. But I could be wrong go research it yourself.
Personally I find that rats and nuisance squirrels are not always killed by a .177 Cal, my aim to the neck must be spot on.

I read the same info TX. Guns, no matter what kind, are inanimate objects. They only do what the holder wills them to do. So when crime occurs, that tells me we have a people issue and not a gun issue.

This is the first I have heard of a restriction, besides age limits, on air powered BB guns. Interesting...... Do BB guns fall under the 2nd amendment?

Yes they do. They are listed under section.......wait for it......BB.

Just call and have it placed on hold and go pick it up yourself.

I ran into a similar problem a couple of years back when the local UPS office got squirmy over a powder/primer shipment to the house.

I went down to the office and picked it up with no problem and only a mumble from the clerk about it being a normal, legal shipment and the drivers not knowing how to find their butts with both hands.

Most of my shipments are in brown boxes, well taped and nothing but address on the outside.

Just don't write on the box....."There is not a freaking gun in here".........
Write, "Machine parts"......

Never mind, it showed up just now. UPS had some kind of glitch in the system. Tracking said it was going back to the sender. I called and UPS said it was on its way to my house.

Sorry for the false alarm but living in Illinois one just never knows.

That is funny kyratshooter. Once when I was a kid my very safety concious father caught me packing my black powder horn before an international trip and made me empty it. I was more concerned that it might be difficult to find cheap powder in the USA than that it is highly flammable. Delivery trucks carry a lot of highly flammable and/or explosive items but if it is something like camp stove fuel or whatever they freak out. Magnesium bar is fine, as are batteries, put those in a fire or against a short circuit.

Hi-end "SLR" camera with magnesium body and lithium batteries in the mail. If this item gets crushed while in transit it could short circuit, start a very hot fire and that down the plane. 1 chance in billion that is what took down that Malaysia plane. Try banning these cameras. Silly ideas, I should not eat so many beans, or joke about tragedy. Sorry if I offended family/friends of victims.

Actually, most hazardous stuff is sent ORM-D via ground transportation. You might bring down a Peterbilt or a Volvo. And we've been meaning to talk to you about the beans. We've had complaints. Wheeew.

I was at a Father/Daughter "YMCA" campout when a father gave his kid some disposable A A batteries and told her to throw them in the campfire. I had never seen it done before (dumb @$$ thing to do) but yelled at the kids standing beside the fire to back off fast. Sure enough they exploded. Dang it! Got me wondering why people are so irresponsible and how many other common items should we be very careful with around heat and sparks etc.

If those happened to be Alkaline batteries they literally create hydrogen gas inside the battery when it is subjected to heat. However, the case of any battery is sealed so when you apply heat to it the pressure on the inside will build. That's why there is a warning on the side of the battery that says do not dispose of in fire.

I guess my question is if you only wanted the CO2 cylinders and not the gun, why not just go to any place that sells the cylinders. I can buy them by the box at Walmart here. Or Dicks. Or Bass Pro. Or the little boat shop down the street.
And Illinois's got nuthin put up against MA gun laws.
