foods i have found in town

we dont live in our woods yet.
we live in the williamette valley.
here is a lot of foods i find and freeze,make syrups from and pies,jams and jellies and such.
Attachment 10178wild plums.there was so many last year that i could just put a plastic bag under the branch-put my hand up on the branch and run it down the limb and get a plastic bag almost full.so i made lots of jams and jellies last summer.

then here is another.i am not sure though what to do with st.johns wort or if this is even it.
i think it is.its all over.mostly in out of the way decorative shrubbery
i pick wild chamomile.at least i hope it is.it smells like it.
i know there is another plant that is similar but not it.
i have dried lots of tea from this.
and also there is chicory.
growing all over.

then on berries.we had a bird i guess drop some droppings in our yard and now we have a wild berry bush we cant keep back...
i go pick wild blackberries for jams,pies and such.
and here is the oregon grape.they are mostly in every parking lot for decorative shrubs.
alot of times they are just every where.
so i make jellies and jams.i find nuts.one year we found massive apples by the river in an old abandoned orchard.if u look u can sure find alot of goodies about.even when i pick blackberries.there is stinging
nettles all over the place.there is the salal berry and all kinds of berries everywhere.

just wanting to share some things i see in town.and use.
and i pick sorrel for salads and dandelion greens in our yard along with clover
for salads.
and we have a wild raspberry plant growing in our yard.i guess a bird dropped droppings with seeds in them.

Thanks and a good reminder that you don't HAVE to be in a wilderness to find and use wild resources......May really come in handy some day.

i was thinking about right now.in my yard we keep having these dog gone blackberry vines coming up.
the leaves can be dried for tea.so can our raspberry leaves and also our strawberry leaves.
theres so much all over just there for the taking.

i have been making teas for winter.
tomorrow i will be making blackberry leaf teas.
soo the rose hips will be ripe and i can gather those from our yard and from the wild.

today i gathered strawberry leaves,apple leaves and rose petals to dry and make a tea for winter.
also gathered apple leaves and put in a jar.added water.will let this set for a while .then when done.i can use it
as an astringent for my face...much like witch hazel is used.Attachment 10199

These plants found in your area brings up the very idea of being aware, and paying attention on what is around you....not off in a never-never land some where.

Back in my "Homesteader" Days, before I became a "Survivor",....at least on various forums...... I used to get some crap as I would describe myself as a "Urban homesteader"...and make comments like "Homesteading is a state of mind, not a place"

We all can use a dose of "take a walk around the neighbor as if it was wilderness.....and see what we can find".

we have a little homestead in town.ha ha...
blueberrys planted,rhubarb,apple trees,plum tree.strawberries and
a garden of maters,corn and onions.kale and also garlic i have not done anything with.
when i go for rides in our truck.i always look for free fruits.
