Anyone else here ever consider dumping all the rim-fires and getting completely out of the .22lr business?
Of late I find myself using them less and less and when I do I usually wish I had used something else!

that's been on my mind lately too.
I must admit that I do not shoot mine much any more but with three granddaughters getting into hunting, I will just pass them along.
Dump rimfires? Have you lost your mind? What other ammo can we complain that you can't find? What other ammo can we blame on the government and point to empty shelves as proof? Dump rimfires. No sir, that would be un-American.
Just to show my true patriotism my new small caliber round will be the approved military round of the US forces, the .223/bla-bla.
I have deemed is just over the threshold needed for sure kills on rabbits, possums and raccoons and when used in a single shot platform it meets all the criterion set forth by the "woods gun" purists, after I remove the collapsible stock and pistol grip.
I love shooting my 22s. Sitting in the woods in squirrel season pickin them out of the tree tops.
Shooting at the range with the grandson knowing my shoulder won't be sore the next day no matter how much I shoot....
No! I'll just keep lookin for ammo n shoot what I have. I'd like a ruger 22 target pistol someday.

First thing you'll have to do is put a new trigger in it. The Mark IIIs were pretty bad. Though they may be better now since I see they are no longer legal in MA.
Try to find an old Mark II. Best low cost target pistol out there.

My MKIII works great, though I did have the hammer bushing thing done. But that was to correct the magazine issues I had with it. It fired just fine.Quote:

Yea, shot placement works fine on tin cans and paper, even on the pint sized targets at the silhouette range.
Not so much on a live critter, bouncing off the walls in a dark chicken house, pumped up on adrenaline and wanting to go out the door you are standing in!
I have played that game one too many times and consider it the primary reason for the .22 dump.
I had to switch to a round that would at least bring on a pause in the movement as the critter contemplated the fact that is had been shot! I had some critters running for 50 yards before bleeding out from .22lr brain shots!
I posted a story a long time ago about raccoons eating my chickens and how it took 4 shots to the head to end one of them buggers. I have long since retired the .22 to plinking and small game such as squirrels and bunnies, and the occasional snake.Quote:

I swear!! I once shot a buck with a 180 gr silver tip 30-06. By the way he run off you woulda thought the bullet bounced right off him.
We tracked him lying dead slumped over a fallen tree 400 ish yards away. When dressing him we found I shot him right in heart and his heart was in 2 pieces.
