What to include on a Cruise Liner survival kit? Need your help and brains!

Well Yes I am headed to mexican islands on a cruise and with all the sickness and power failures, I got to keep it small Ul Backpack in a way. What should I bring?....I have heard others put a small kit together just in case.....

a bag of homemade jerky, food
High energy bars - not granola
water mixers (mio)
Solar panel 5v 1 amp homebrew
Anker
Phone
Water bladder(s)
Alcohol stove and cup
surgical gloves clear.
grain Alcohol or 151 rum
Hand Sanitizer w/ Triclosan
Bic
large supply of anti diarrhea pills
pain meds
Febreze
high powered compact flashlight and magnify glass for bedbugs....
Extra high powered charger for phones.
face Masks.
a micro LED goalpro LED light,

As much water as they allow you. That way no one on board has touched and infected it.
Instant oatmeal - you just add boiling water (sterile) in case norovirus breaks out.

Gotta make sure you can do a #2 at the very least. (#1 more manageable) I understand that has been a recurring an issue.

Make sure you are up to date on any shots/vaccines required for the areas you are going visit on day tours.

Sea Bands. They counteract sea sickness without the drowsiness Dramamine can produce. I have no idea how they work. Might be a placebo. But if it works, it works and they are pretty cheap. My wife and I use them and we've never been sick. We've been queasy but not sick.

You might check on the jerky. It might get confiscated. Home made foods like that are often forbidden.

Check on your stove as well. The ship might frown on the ability to have open fires in a room. They might confiscate it. They should provide of list of items you can not take.

Mini multi-tool and/or small Swiss Army Knife. That should get you past any knife blade length problems. Checked luggage only. Things have a way of breaking or coming apart on a trip like that. A mini tool will let you fix a lot of stuff. The SAK should have a cork screw if you like wine in your room. Otherwise, you'll pay a corkage fee.

Small roll of duct tape

Zip lock bags. Freezer type. If you do land tours you'll be able to keep electronics dry if it rains. They are good to keep sand out of electronics as well. Just put a few in a pocket when you are on a tour so you'll have them if you need them.

Highlighter pen or ink pen. They are great to mark the cruise schedule activities you are most interested in. Also good for marking tour guides if you are taking one.

A night light. Sounds crazy but those cabins can be pretty dark and unfamiliar at 2:00 a.m.

Small power strip. You can check with your cruise line but most offer a single U.S. 120V outlet in the room. The rest will be Euro 220V. Your cruise line can tell what's in the room.

Check your medical insurance and make certain you are covered for illnesses/accidents overseas. Do they provide air ambulance service home if it's needed?

Baby wipes. If you do get sick you'll be glad you have them.

You might not be able to take grain alcohol or rum. They have plenty of drinking alcohol. Take some 70% rubbing alcohol instead if you need it for the stove.

I will never take a trip where I am confined to an area that could sink or go Dark Ages at any time.

A set of FRS/GRMS radios so that you can stay in tough if you get separated. They are popular on cruise ships, so set your privacy codes......or just listen in for some entertainment.

Pete - A cruise can be a paradise like no other. You don't have to go out in the ocean if you don't want to. You can take a cruise up the Inside Passage for example. That's almost all sheltered. My wife and I renewed our vows on a cruise. The captain performed the ceremony. It was wonderful. I had to get her drunk of course to agree to marry me again and she was pretty upset when she sobered up. I'll never forget her words the next morning. "We did what?" A slice of heaven I tell you.

These are handy even in your hiking bag....too bad you can't find them with the FM option.

The subject of what to take is interesting, but I have to tell ya, with the bad press lately, kinda destroyed my desire to float a party.

Does anyone have the "rules" of what you can take?

Did you have a water filter in mind?.....most are pretty large for carry on.

I did a cruise several years back to see what it was like to be on top of the water for a change. The views were spectacular - the crowds not so much.

Hey Rick lots of good ideas... The alcohol stove would only be used in a total fail however it has been tested under commercial smoke detectors and it works.

I doubt I need a desalinator, if I store fresh water in bladders.

It does more than just remove salt.
Water weighs a lot and doesn't last long.
Whatever you're comfortable with. But survival kits usually contain some way of purifying water.

Be sure to check your cruise line web site for prohibited items. There may be other items that would be considered banned if you dock in another country, that jerky for instance. So the cruise line might not allow it on board even if you are boarding in a U.S. port. Their web site may well have a list of suggested items you should carry as well.

yea turns out the wood grain alcohol will have to be substituted with 151 in a unopened 1/2 bottle. The Jerky will stay on board.

I guess I should have been more specific.....Commercial FM.....an option I had on a early "Talkabout", that is offered on most, just handy to have something to listen to....

Most have the weather channels on the hand-held's..........
