City Girl Gone Country

Hi everyone!

I am new to this site as well as to living in the desert and mountains. I recently moved out of the city of Chicago to the NW AZ area. Yep, I gave up the business suits, cocktail dresses, 4 star hotels and Mercedes for hiking shoes, jeans, tent and a Jeep and do not regret it for a moment!! I just hope everyone can be patient with me when I ask questions as I know little to nothing about the wilderness but am learning and want to learn all that I can. I may ask some fairly silly questions. I look forward to getting to know the members on this site and learning from each of you.

Welcome home. Interesting that you made such a drastic change in your life without having the information to do it. I guess sometimes you just have to take a leap of faith. Check out the search feature. There are tons of threads on almost any subject. But don't be afraid to ask.

I must say that I miss the pizza! Oh and Portillo's hotdogs and Italian Beef! I don't miss the traffic though. It is amazing the stars I can see here at night. I like the bible verse. One of my favorites. My move out here was totally directed by God. I was moving to Florence Italy but he brought me out here. It has been quite and adjustment to say the least. I don't like snakes, bugs or any other creepy thing. I almost wet my pants the first time I saw a sand cricket! I have not adjusted to them yet. Blow snakes! HA! They say they are "good" snakes. I say "not" especially when you are going p in the woods and one stares you in the face. Scorpions. Rattlers. Long gone are my cute flip flops that's for sure! I have gone to battle with the fire ants out here. I lost the first round and ended up screaming and yelling with my pants off! Mud works good for fire ant bites come to find out. I have not figured out why they names sunspiders with "sun" since they only come out at night. Hideous things! Despite my loathing of such creatures I have found more peace out here than I have known. It is truly an adventure... Have a wonderfully blessed day!!! DL

Thank you.. This was truly a leap of faith! I was going to move to Florence Italy. I do not regret the move for a moment. To taste fresh spring water is amazing! Oh and the smell of sage brush! Simply divine! I am looking forward to learning more about the lifestyle that I have chosen. I want to live naturally and honestly, I want to live off the grid. I learned how to dry meat from this website. Way cool!!! I am glad I came across this site.....

How come ya dont feel that way about Gators !!!

Because you can't trust a dinosaur and they don't eat mice. The eat people and I don't relish being on the menu. (Get it? Eat people? Relish? I slay myself)

Welcome to the Forums! Just in case you were wondering, a good Béarnaise sauce will keep well in the back of a Jeep for about 12 hours. A Bordelaise will easily survive for 2 full days.
