Why would the "Red Cross" be on the list of need to know....are they a Gov. agency as well?Quote:

There are 5 more pages of terms after page 20...
and it says right there on the label the terms are used to monitor "social media" during an event to provide "situational awareness".
It doesn't say they use the terms to scan your emails.
They just outright read those anyway.

I you post something on a social media site, like this forum, then it's in the public domain and no one in their right mind should thinks it's private or proprietary information. They aren't worried about themselves they are looking for any post with that word in it. Along with the other ten thousands words that are and probably are not on that list. They probably have a media library of every motion picture and TV or radio broadcast every made.
I'll not comment beyond the document that was posted but only say that if the NOC restricted itself to capturing key words or phrases on media sites none of us would have a problem. Maybe we need to define the word "if".
Doesn't anyone think the Red Cross that is on the need to know list ...is odd?

Unless I misread something the Red Cross is not on a "need to know" list. The NOC is looking for anyone posting the words "Red Cross".

I agree with you on this,when the tornado hit here last year,the Red Cross was here, given free room and board at the local Church campground HUGE campground that is supported by a certain mega church out of Louisville. Things went okay for a couple of months,until the money donations slowed down to a trickle,then a different crew of Red Cross came in and replaced the ones who showed up first. First thing on their agenda was to issue the church and order to inventory EVERYTHING,in EVERY building so they could bill the government for it and they now owned it (just the contents not the buildings or the grounds).Quote:

Back in the late 70's, we were searching for a drowning victim off a local beach. It was October, the water was cold, and the weather was rainy and raw. I came out of the water and walked over to the Red Cross Canteen truck for a cup of coffee and a sandwich. They asked me for $2.00. I walked back to my truck, about 200 yards away, and got my wallet. Did I mention that it was cold and raw out there? I walked back to the truck and paid for my sandwich and coffee.
The Salvation Army also had a canteen truck there, and I walked over for another cup of coffee. They poured my coffee and offered me a sandwich, hot soup, hot chili.... I asked how much I owed them for the coffee and sandwich and they looked at me like I had two heads. They told me that they NEVER charge first responders or anyone else for any of their services. I told them of my experience at the Red Cross truck. A lady smiled at me and said, "Son, we're the Salvation Army, not the Red Cross."
I wouldn't pizz on the Red Cross if it was on fire. I make regular donations to the Salvation Army.

I have no bad words for the Red Cross. They were excellent. I have to commend the first responders and neighbors in that town as well. The only folks we had trouble with were the State Police and they were just trying to sort out who belonged and who didn't but they could sure hold you up at the roadblocks if your license didn't have the right address on it. That part was a pain.
