I'm right in the center of quite a big snowstorm... it's coming down pretty hard right now... about 2-3 inches per hour with howling winds.
The total snowfall is supposed to be anywhere from 24-36+ inches, depending on what local forecaster I believe. It should end sometime tomorrow, again reports vary as to what time.
I'm looking forward to strapping on my snowshoes and grabbing my snowboard tomorrow... go for a little walk in the woods!
It's still coming down in the city. But I can't quite call it a storm like everyone else does around here.
What distinguishes a storm from just snowing? Have I gone soft in the head and don't see danger where others do?
More likely prepared for what may happen. When you are - it's just living.
It's cause absolute chaos in Long Island. My bro has been stuck in traffic for hours. Not cause his car is stuck, but cause others are and the roads are just jammed. I regret not picking up a 4x4 over the summer right now, I would have given it to him today.
Now just imagine if TSHTF and people were trying to bug out in their vehicle.Quote:

oh, definitely. I'm in no position to really prep for anything MAJOR, but my best plan would be to hunker down and try to ride it out. I mean, sandy was a walk in the park for me, as is this. Just my bro was stuck on the roads and just got home. His car is still out there and my parents and him are freaking out over that... lol. I offered to ride back out with one of them later to get it, but they're going to bed.
If something HUGE hit, oh, say NYC was nuked or one of the local reactors went, well, I already know that the odds are in favor of the wind carrying the fallout towards long island, so kind of SOL there... lol
So really, my best possible plan would be to be ready to hunker down with supplies for several weeks. The only bonus being in this area is help is generally not very far away because of how many people are here.
This is one of my standard scenarios because it has happened around here before. I keep a bag in the car, so I can be comfortable for up to 3 days while waiting for the traffic jam to be removed. I don't want to have to abandon my vehicle in the middle of a blizzard.Quote:

ABC News said many of the expressways were closed and hundreds of motorists were stranded. This is one of my main reasons for a vehicle bag. And, yes, Clay, goggles with clear and shaded lens are in both vehicles. Stay safe!!
Here's a picture out my front door.
The snow directly behind the door got blown out.
Check out the deck,at least 2 1/2-3 ft. out there.
I'm taking my time getting out there to clean up.

Nothing but sloshy mess left on the streets. We'll be going off to the park for the real winter wonderland effect I was hoping for.

I'm a little north of you LLT. It doesn't look that bad here mostly cuz the wind blows up off the lake and takes the snow with it. The driveway is mostly clear, but I have a drift against the back of the house almost up to the window sills. Still only thinking about going out to shovel. The snow has stopped but it's still drifting around like crazy. Straight 30mph wind. If I start up the snow blower, likely to land in the next three neighbors' yards and they'll get all pissy.
On the flat we probably have a little less than 2 feet.
But.
I remember as a kid having storms like this, without the hype, and it's just snow.
I bet FirstTimeStar is giggling up her sleeve at 20" of snow.
Gonna drop below zero tonight so if you're in the heavy wet snow band, better get out there and clean it up.
Have you noticed that with the exception of Worcester, all the Boston weather forecasters have simply ignored the rest of the state outside of 128?
