I've missed a lot of posts so if this has been posted on let me know and I'll delete it. This is the very scenario that many of us have criticized Bear for. It was only a matter of time IMHO.

We all gotta go sometime....was he wrong following his dream?.....I don't think so, at least he did his home work and was equiped, but as we all know "Stuff Happens".
To blame this on Bear, or any one, no matter how silly they may be, is just stupid.........he could have been hit by a bus, leaving his house to cash his welfare check??????
I wouldn't blame it on Bear no more than I would blame Paula Dean for the obesity rate in the US.
However, I do blame the guy himself; dream or no dream, he apparently wasn't prepared enough.
Unfortunately it cost him his life.
Well ya just gotta know your limitations, and he didn't!
Agreeing with BENESSE here! First, every episode of M. v. W. starts off with a disclaimer NOT to try and duplicate what is shown on the program without expert advice! Also he was an adult, had taken some courses, but just wasn't prepared enough unlike B.G.! There was no camera crew to bail him out, no Inn close by, and maybe, just maybe, he ran out of urine to drink! :sneaky2: :innocent: :whistling:
On the serious side, this is what I've always feared, somebody thinking that "survival" is a game rather than "life or death!" :cool2:
Is anyone ever "prepared enough"?..........
Point is that "stuff happens" you can't protect everybody, they have to be allowed to make mistakes and take consequences for those own actions.
Did bear give him the idea?, probably, did he head out with out enough knowledge?, most likely.......was it Bears fault?....I don't agree at all,.... that on him or his maker.
Or just bad luck?
Just imagine... there are a lot of medical series in the television. But we won't make a surgery on our friend because we saw that on the TV and read the biology book.
"Reality TV" also reared its ugly head when the Mythbusters fired a cannon ball into a neighbor's home.
Reality starts (IMHO!) when you power down the computer/game console/TV, put down the book and start living in the real world. :)
So how come he didn't have a film crew with him?
There's always a disclaimer at the beginning of every survival show I've watched.
Of all the "survival" show's that I have seen, none have been for more than a week, so they say, and all are trying to get back to the city, not staying away for a year. I just think the young man didn't think this through, it is too bad.
Well, that's what the guy did; had he spent any time on this forum and heeded advice of many a sage members, he would have prepared better.
Get your learning any way you can, as many different ways you can, then go out and practice what you've learned. Everything has it's place in the big picture. And that's the real world. At least from what I've been able to observe.
The show Man,Woman Wild episode last week was in the Scottish highlands.
Looks like a pretty baron wilderness. They had to use stones for a wind break as there's no trees.Raining and windy almost 90% of the time.
Stupid people emulating stupider people!
People always underestimate their knowledge. It's always true.
That would mean you are underestimating the truth of your statement. So is it actually a fact? One wonders.........
I have done primitve skills there in the Highlands. Just like the survival instructor said in the piece: The landscape has been denuded of trees and it wide open. It;s exposure central. And the Highlands are weird: You can swim in the north Sea comfortably but can see a snow/ice line on top of the mountain peeks, the monroe's- just/only 3000' !
