Here's my advice if you're carrying a survival book with you out into the wilderness. Buy a cheap one with newsprint paper on the pages. Those expensive ones with glossy pages don't light as easily. It may serve you well if you need to get a fire started and the less money you've spent on it, the better you'll feel about watching it go up in smoke.
They're also good for wiping when out in the woods, gotta have some tp no matter where you are :D
I carry a pocket Bible. When St Peter asks me "What are you doing here?" I can pull it out of my pack and tell him "I am looking for a quiet place to read". If he leaves me along long enough, I might be able to sneak back before he knows I am gone!
Sometime a or the good book makes a great ending to a long day. If you learn a new trick or technique you can use, all the better. (For TP just look for leaves of 3. JOKE)
By the way, the thin paper in a pocket Bible wads up nice and burns hot.

Burning the Good Book? Are you nuts, that's survival in a place I don't wanna try it in, and the odds ar stacked against you to fail at it for eterinity.

I agree with trax, The bible is no different from other books in production or in the way that a company will get money from selling them. I think that if god loves us all and is as forgiveing as the bible itself says he is then he wont mind you burning pieces of paper
Not a great firestarter, but I carry the multi-service SERE laminated flipbook in my pack. It's a Cliff's Notes compilation of Army, Navy, AF & Marine manuals.
see? It's the laminated pages. Newsprint, go cheap...

I don't care how cold it is there is always something that will burn in nature you just have to look for it. And Tony when typing God the "G" is supposed to captialized, and the Bible is different from other books in that it is God's word not just some book. But you were right Rick was going to go for the Haggis line saw that coming.

I also agree I don't take it trekking either, but Trax, bro, you know there are always things to burn out in the forested areas no matter what the weather, I didn't say it would be easy, I said there are things out there to burn.
