Absolutely. I worked in IT way too long not backup all my essential information. I burn my backups to DVD. I generally run a full backup once a month then incrementals each week.
i do not currently but used to keep a backbone HD image on DVD via norton ghost.
my user data files, e-literature, etc is kept on DVD when i will need to distribute it and also for general purposes, and for sharing across machines at my home, on an external 0.5TB drive i was given for christmas.
any particular reason why you guys use a DVD ?
is it just for the bigger capcity ?
yes. it beats using a series of CDs for the HD image. about 3gb
As Canid said. You can create a data DVD to store your info. It's beats everything else unless you have a tape vault in your closet.:D
I have a 1tb extrernal storage unit to keep files, movies, music and large programs. I make backups about once every few weeks for when i have something inportant on my pc
damn, that is a huge amount of memory. u must sure have a lot of movies and games on there (that is way too much to have any significant amount be for music). I have 75GB and I am fine with that.
Well, Tony cut the disc into four separate pieces to store the date then wrapped each blank sector in cheese cloth and dipped them in paraffin to save them for when TSHTF.
I have an 8GB flash drive for everyday storage and a 1TB external hard drive that houses all my video footage & editing software, photos, and book manuscripts, as well as, all other documents.
It is stored at my Uncle's house in his fire & waterproof safe. ;)
Why do you need to save things on your computer when my computer is full I just think of it as time to go through and get rid of all the things Im not using and or don't want.
redundant storage [backups] are usefull when something happens to your disk drive, so that you will have a copy of data you might need. extended storage is for when you have more data you actually want to keep than you can store on your primary drive. physically seperate storage assures that your redundant data is less likely to be damaged in an event that compromises the data on your primary drive.
if it matters to you, there are practical reasons for all the mad nonsense.
What do you all think about web based back up sites like Mozy.com? Keeping your own back ups is easier to do and in the long run, don't cost as much. However, keeping it stored at your house, what happens to your backups in case of a burglary or fire?
you lose them.
Mine are in a fire "proof" safe.
you know, a fireproof safe is probably an ideal device for making char cloth...
I hope not. It's fire rated for one hour at 1700F.
