Yikes, we still have snow on the ground here in Cleveland Ohio and expecting more.... I tend to be usually always prepped......
Tornado warning, not watch....moving into interior now...talk later. Tornado n my area.
Whew downgraded to a watch now....
OK here's what I just did.
1) got everyone to the most protected room in the house...boys were sleeping.
Dagnabbit...back under a warning..... TTYL

Later today we're getting the line of storms that went through your area. Don't expect anything severe though.

@ OGL I live near Bowling Green Ky. Just outside of Glasgow but with a Cave City address...weird.
Learned some things last night. Like I cannot depend on the Warning sirens at all. Even when I stepped outside to Quickly tie something down I could just BARELY hear them. Also They lifted the warning and 5 minutes later it was back in effect. So just sit tight for a bit AFTER the warning is lifted.
OK I was TRYING to list the things we did while they were fresh in my mind.... LOL so much for that happening.
After we got in the safest place in the house, I grabbed our radios,and my BOB, and some blankets for the boys. We got everyone fully dressed(Including my "survival Vest") and "Hunkered down". We turned on our walkie talkie to the NOAA station for our area. We left the TV on, loud enough so that we could hear updates on the situation. The storm was (according to them) moving at 70MPH. What I did see(Before we moved to the Hallway) was a long thin line of red. I don't think a tornado was produced, BUT it sure sounded like it from the way they were talking. Maybe they were just being careful as Tornadoes can't really be seen at night....only their effect afterwards. My biggest fear of a Tornado is when we are all asleep. I leave a TV on when it is bad weather and we go to bed..... the Warning will be able to be heard..... assuming the power doesn't go out.
Thank You for your concern. I hope there is something someone can learn from this. BTW BOB's are not just for TEOTWAWKI... it was reassuring knowing that IF we needed it, we had some of the basics ready to roll out the door.
We are under a warning for tonight and tomorrow,, I am moving firewood from out behind the shed to the covered porch, will go to the grocery store and get a few supplies,,
@Pocco,, you need one of those "Alert" radios, they go off like a pager or alarm clock when a warning is issued ;)Quote:

check wal-mart for the weather radios...saw them there back in MI..tho it is possible they just arent in stock right now.
Yeah with people getting Tax-refunds Our Wal-Mart is having trouble keeping some things on hand. They had 2 there but they didn't have the battery back-up.Quote:

Well with bad weather looming yesterday we made the decision to get a Midland that Wally-World had just gotten a shipment of. Got it set up and it went off all last night....at least 6-10 times. 3 times within a half hour! I didn't have it set for my county so it alerted on everything that it could get a signal for! Tonight will be an early night! LOL
No radio here...it is all situational awareness. We were forecast for a "real" thunderbluster tonight..I kept one ear to the ground and nothing..just my way of doing it. I watch the forecast and stay aware.
You know, until I had to start dealing with Tornadoes I did it the same way. If I weren't in an area where They could pop up at a moments notice, I would go back to that sort of situation too. Since the start of this thread we have had about a half dozen watches, and a couple of warnings....that's in just two storm systems, with a whole season just starting.Quote:

The meteorologists can see the cloud rotation, and give warnings. With the power out, my radio has an emergency battery back-up. So when I can't depend on the TV or computer(or when asleep) that radio is our only warning. Tornadoes, unlike Hurricanes have a bad habit of occurring suddenly and sometimes with little or no warning(Without the meteorologists help). The Emergency siren that is closest to us can't be heard outside with a strong wind blowing. I have seen a tornado form out of almost nothing "Unusual" in a storm. That radio has an alert function that can wake us and give us that amount of time to get to a place of (Hopefully) safety.
