We all learned how to make advanced shelters as a storm blew in and destroyed our tents (We spent a week using nothing but primative shelter till a ranger showed and gave me a lift back to the truck to recover our back up gear) We could have finished the trip with out the tents but it was nicer having them around. The closest thing we had to an emergency was we traveled a short distance overland to a river. With in ten minutes of fishing we ran into a mama bear with two cubs. we had no escape route as we were on a small spit of land mabey thirty meters by ten meters. Entering the river wasnt an option as it was very fast full of rapids and we were only a couple of hundred meters above a five meter waterfall. Bear bangers work!!! and we left right after the bears did

We also practiced tons of fieldcraft skills ranging from fixing tears and hole in anything that could tear, burn, rip, or just fall apart. Food prep, plant and animal ID, Skinning. the list goes on and on My eldest also want to inform everyone that doing your buisness on poison ivy really REALLY sucks (Several days of me laughing)
