A single vertebra won't slow you down much once healed. I think a fusion is a 3% loss of range if I remember correctly. I had a C5-6 fusion in '94 but didn't need the cage. They just fused them. My only complaint is arthritis. I'll be glad when you can remove the neck brace. I know how contemptible that thing gets. That 1st shower without it is heaven.
I am wearing a c-collar right now......gggrrrr,I can remove it long enough to take a shower, but OMG,I have had to track down a dickie, because it is rubbing my chest so badly that it is quite raw, especially a mole I have on my chest (2d,I swear to God,don't go there...) I could not imagine having it on during the summer.
You can't look down even to eat. You can't open your mouth all the way. You can't look left or right without turning your whole body. They didn't need to waterboard the detainees just make them wear a collar. The good news is it really does come off some day. Hang in there.
You are sooo right,Rick, eating out at a restaraunt is totally embarassing,I mean HOW do you consistantly miss your mouth like that, good thing sweetie has a good sense of humour, because I think there have been at least a couple of times I have worn more food out of the establishment than I actually have gotten into my mouth,LOL
Bibs are part of your survival kit right now. How do you tolerate riding in the car? I would think every little bump would be felt in your neck.
Yep,car rides are a nightmare, especially here in the country where they "forget" road maintenance, and a particularly nasty stretch of 65,very rough ride. I have figure out that when we go out,it's soup and a straw and to heck with what anyone else thinks!
Glad to see you on your feet Rick. Prayers for all those that have mentioned ongoings here.
Thanks, Tresmon.
Nell, try to sit straight up with back not touching the seat when th bigger bumps can be seen (pot holes, RR tracks, etc.). It allows the vehicle to move without you moving more than if you sit back in the seat. Just lean forward. You'll be amazed in the difference. It won't make it a good trip but more tolerable.
Thanks,RIck,anything to make trips less painful is a big plus!!
I found out I'm stuck in this sling for 6 weeks until the bones heel. I can't shovel snow, do the laundry or even do house chores. All I can do is sit here and be waited on. This life holds no mercy.
I was in the harness for 8 weeks......I'm still making up for it.
I've never had to wear one more than a week or so. This is gonna put a crimp in my slovenly ways. Being a slob on your own is one thing but when folks expect it there's no challenge.
You're on the list, Missy.
Best of luck heal fast
(making note.......)
Keepin ya covered.....
Hey Rick....you ever bid people adon't?Quote:
I Bid You All Adieu!
