HA LOL that got thier attention thanks crashdive
Was thinking today (happens from time to time). Since your trip is an extended one, you may want to plan a trip to the dentist before going. You'd hate to have a trip like that ruined or cut short because a tooth goes bad.
ahh yes see thats why i asked I never even considered that
You said you were going to check in at the Rangers station. Here's a document that you can fill out and leave with them should they have to come looking for you.

Something else you might consider, If you take aluminum foil and step on it softly, it will leave a boot print embedded in the foil. Leave it on the dash of your truck. If anyone needs to track you they will know what your boot print looks like.
never thought of the foil trick but I talked to the RCMP and the rangers they asked me to wait till 6 to 12 months out before submiting any paperwork but thanks for the link it will make it faster than waiting on them to send it
Excaliber, do you know someone there that you are meeting up with? Still cant figure out why you want to go to Prince George. It really is the last place I would wanna go in beautiful British Columbia.
I cannot remember the name of the lake I havent gotten ahold of my old scout master but I do know its about 150 kilometers south of prince george I actually have never been into the city plus its 3 hours on a gravel road to the trail head
Hmmm, on First Nations land? Blackdome lake maybe?
its been 20 years since Ive been there I could give you a discripion of the area thats about it, my scout master went every other summer up till 2001 I hope its still the same
I just hope there is still trees for ya to camp. I was in Kamloops a couple weeks ago and not a tree left alive from Asian Pine Beetle. Wiped out huge areas.
well that just means Ill have shelter and LOTS of fire wood lol
Hello all Long time no chat.
My trip went off with only a few oops, my youngest lost the only item that wasnt on the list of needed supplies the digital camera over the side of the canoe but we had a blast. There was a lot of tree damage but everything was springing back and the fishing was awesome. the only injury was a fishing hook to the ear (Dang kids) we saw lots of wildlife including 2 brown bear dozens of deer (I ached for my rifle) and nothing came close to the camp save some rodents and racoons. weather was great except the two days of rain. I wanted to thank everyone that gave me advice and help planning for this trip you all made it very fun and safe
Welcome back. Glad you had a good time. Bummer on the camera. Did you keep a journal?
no i didnt
Well, I look forward to hearing how it went for you and the boys.
the story is long mostly routine with a few moments of stark raving terror. My biys handled themselves with a level of maturity that suprised me. I was able to let them go with in the first week as they showed that the months of prep before HAD sunk in. They said the best part of the trip (except the fishing) was the three days we didnt unpack the canoes and didnt use any gear other than what we had on us. they built fires made shelters found food (mostly berries and of course fish).
Ian the middle kid suprised me by actually catching (and releasing) several large rodents that he could have ate using snares he made from his fishing line. They got a crash course in how to float a canoe in frigid water well over thier heads (Idiots horseplaying) how to retrieve your oars when you get to excited about fishing and forgot to secure them (I laughed for almost an hour) first aid fishing hooks in ears (I could have killed the brat that hit me) broken finger (last time he uses a big rock to pound in tent stakes) Broken toe (who knew cast iron dutch ovens were so heavy...Idiot) and blisters, sunburn, insect bites, various burns scrapes and cuts (my youngest said dont cut near your fingers when cleaning fish...Duh)
How to react when a bear enters your camp in the middle of the night (I was a bundle of nerves, very frayed nerves) how to track, ID, and stalk deer, sheep, elk (My smart butt oldest was proud of how he tracked frogs though a muddy swamp) Learning how to use thier survival kits was entertaining as two of them left them in the camp so we had to make do with half of the kits. How fast thier dad can clear camp when he busts out the baked beans, I figured it was a rotting carcass they kept blaming me for.
