Do you have a method of observing the outside of your location; when you are in your bunker?
At least one other curious/unfriendly ? person knows of your bunker. [the one that tried to break in].
So what happens when they patiently wait for you to 'lift the lid and peek out.' I'm not expecting you to detail your safeguards, only that you DO have them.

I do have one window, which I obtained from the dumpster at a factory I worked at 15 years ago. This is supposed to be an unbreakable and hopefully bullet proof window made out of thick clear plastic material. I am not going to shoot at it to test it though. Although hitting it some with a hammer has proven to me that it seems resistant to breaking.
I keep that window covered with plywood since there is heavy snow from Nov. to June up there.
And I also have a periscope and can make more of them. Fairly easy to make the periscope with a long narrow wood box with mirrors at each end.
And there is this large metal pipe, that is about five feet long which looks down towards my private road. On the right is a mask with 2 eyeholes >

I do have other safeguards which I guess I won't tell Everything. Just say some motion detectors and the bunker is in an L shape which from the porthole as well as near this barricaded door I can cover the back trap door - "lid" It may seem like I have told everything but I really have not.

My bug out plans are as layered as gear. This is my snowshoe bug out but I have ski, snow machine, amphibious ATV, boat and vehicles routes established as well with several possible BOL’s. Snowshoes allow me to pull my sleds, my wife pulls one too. Snow shoes come in different sizes to support different weights. The small pair is rated at 200 pounds which is my weight but they are for my wife that weighs 120 but I can use them also. The larger pair is rated to 250 pounds which is my weight plus all I would ever carry. Note the hinged crampons. The bite they offer is a big improvement over conventional snow shoes climbing mountains.

I’m standing in 3 feet of snow and barely sink. This will leave most people and machines behind.

There are no roads behind me so the woods begins 10 feet out my back door. I use obstacles to my advantage and immediately head down my creek to keep it between me and who ever may see me from the other side and I quickly disappear in the woods.

This route has a lot of small trees laid over from weight of snow that have to be navigated around like a maze. With my skis I just go over them but I can’t pull as much weight and my wife is not near the skier I am so skis are mostly for solo travel.

Light footprint is hard to see from any distance and will disappear with next snow or wind. Another advantage of newer shoes is going over tops of bushes sticking out of snow but they can still work into holes and snag just not as bad. When going over them I drag my feet to bend them over before putting weight down eliminating the problem.

I know where I can cross several creeks. When water is low lip develops on sides than can be hard for snow machines to get over but these newer ones have enough power to lift front end. Still in the thick woods they are pretty much limited to trails. Traveling your route you learn things like I had to lighten and balance weight between the two sleds for them to float across creeks.

Snap buckles make it quick and easy to remove snowshoes to walk log bridges.

Off in the distance 25 miles away is Knik Glacier. I have logged 70 hours flying over this area locating routes to Prince William Sound and other features. There is an air route through this area but none of my routes intersect it.

I have several BOL’s established. I will be in mountain canyons that cannot even be flown into except by helicopter and even they would have to get within rifle range to do it. No type of motorized vehicle can get past the glacier or up the mountains that are only 6 miles from my house. My plan is to live in this wasteland that will be close enough for me to observe my house and return if safe or drop into areas rich in fish and game to hunt but returning to the glaciers and canyons to hideout. This is just one of three plans I have developed and explored and this one does not matter who knows it. You can bet if you find me I’ll have the high ground, a 270 and know you're coming. Having lived and worked outside in Alaska all my life and my wife being Eskimo I figure most will freeze to death before they ever get near us.
I'm even working on a bug out from my BOL. All I need is a parachute, I have the skis.

It reads like a good story and I can see it all in my mind's eye. Every step. In another lifetime I'd love to live in Alaska. I love the snow, the vastness, the solitude, the pure, fierce beauty of it. The best we do now is try to get away to Utah, Colorado and Vermont every chance we get during the colder months.
Haven't tried snow shoeing but you've inspired me here not to put it off any longer. As far as parachute skiing...well it wouldn't be totally out of the question but it would definitely be a last resort for me in a survival type of situation. Because if I hurt myself the options would be limited.
I am a pretty good skier but the two times I fell and broke my shoulder would have been impossible to imagine if I were by myself. The first time it happened I actually was alone off piste for about 1/2hr before I was discovered. (I had sense enough to carry a whistle) The pain was incapacitating and affected every little move beyond the shoulder. I managed to flip myself from facing the ground to facing the sky but I couldn't do much more. I often replay that in my head trying to figure out what I could have done if I were truly alone and not discovered for hours or days.
What would you do?
Benesse, I don't have any good answers to serious injury except to minimize risk. Don't get the wrong idea from that video, I'm no hotdogger. I would pick a safer route. Chutes like that have a glide ratio of 3 to 1 and rather than hug the mountain I would use that glide ratio to get away from mountain and cover as much distance as possible. I would like to mention that I would use a similar plan if I lived in New York City. I live on a road and have access to all the modern conveniences but nothing on the other side of me. You have the same situation with the Atlantic ocean. If I were you I would have a fully stocked Kayak on top of my car at all times ready to go and live off the sea untill I got someplace better.
PS I just read on another post you don't have a car, but storage is available at most marinas or if you are in walking distance a dolly would work and you could just store Kayak tied to the cieling of your apartment. There are also folding and inflatable Kayaks that store easier but would not be as ready for grab and go.

Your area looks good. Probably not nearly as much snow as my mtn country and most probably a lot colder.
I like a BOL - retreat with a bunker though. As I have said before any raiders would go after the 20 plus cabins within 2 miles of my mtn place before they would even find my bunker. And any raiders or thieves would be sorry if they ever did find my mtn place and bunker.
And I have a pair of Canadian military snow shoes which work well and seem indestructible. I should get more expensive snowshoes but these work plenty well. I also should do more cross country skiing.
And people may not believe it since I was born in Colorado but I have never down hill skied. Never been to Aspen, Vail etc. except just driving through. Far too expensive for one thing. And I like cross country skiing and snow shoeing infinitely better than any expensive, crowded ski resort.

The other side of the mountains where I am headed is warmer and lots more snow. The warm air off the water hits the cold air for world record snow falls. I can take the cold but prefer the warmer environment and the water. I'm more at home in coastal areas where I was raised.
If you've spent your life skiing on flimsy cross country skis you would not have much trouble with down hill using heavier stiffer skis. You have much more control. I have threes pairs depending on terrain. Touring cross country, telemark and downhill. I'm not a great skier but with the control of heavier skis I can snowplow all the way down the mountain if I have to. I tell you skis sure have come a long ways compared to the boards I learned on! Climbing skins and crampons can get me to places I never would have skied before. I love the pilot cross country binding and have them on all my skis. The center ridge gives me all the control I need for my level of skiing and being able to just step in and use ski pole to release and step out save a lot of bending over.
Wow lots of thought went into you BOL that's for sure. Sadly I really can't have a BOL until I am able to finally settle in one location. I have been working on a location in Southern Indiana that would work nicely. I only wish it was my land not State owned. If I am ever able to own some land I have several great ideas for security and storage of gear that would work well. I know one thing though, I wouldn't want to try and survive in a cold mountainous region with all that snow.
