Okay. Now, I sit back and wait.......... :) All of this may have been for nothing if this thing heads out to sea, but I'd rather be ready than not.
On Thursday, I'll probably walk through Home Depot and the supermarket just to watch everybody panic because they waited 'till the last minute and everything's out of stock. :blushing:
Things should get interesting if Earl decides to drop by or come close. I'll try to get some ocean storm pics and pics of any damage that may occur around here. :)
Oh, CRAP! I've still gotta' pick up extra beer and wine coolers. Maybe some extra limes for margaritas, too. :innocent:
Impressive ! well done ken,, Be careful, it's looking ugly ;) (The images in post 42 and 37 both auto update, keep an eye on them )
I'm still planning to be sleeping in a tent outside of Solon for the week. Want to share that list with my wife Ken?
Ahem Ken, I do believe you may be scimping on the flashlights? This would certainly not be the time to go light on the lights. And what are you thinking????? Short on beer and coolers? Disappointing young man :)
It seem that we here in the great state of NJ will dodge a bullet. Maybe a bit snotty at the shore, but we are close to the PA border so should be ok. Have tenatively canceled the families trip to Upstate NY. Could change dependent on the forcast
And, thankfully, Indiana lucked out again.
I'll have the camera charged and ready to take some pictures.
It's really quite a sight to see.Next weekend I'm scheduled to be at a beach campground in S. MA. over the weekend.
To all in the path of Earl, be careful.
Duck, duck, duck, duck the Earl.
Duck, duck, duck the Earl.
Duck, duck, duck the Earl.
Duck, duck, duck the Earl.
Duck, duck, duck, duck the Earl.
Duck, duck, duck the Earl.
Duck, duck, duck the Earl.
Duck, duck, duck the Earl.
As I-I walk through this world
You just have to duck, duck the Earl
And-a you, you can blow up quite a whirl
And no one can hurt you, oh no.
Rick - you ain't right.
If I had a nickle for every time I've heard that.......
Earl has not turned yet. Everybody along the coast from Georgia on up - please keep an eye on this one.
Nice. They just moved the projected track West. Some local forecasts now have the eye passing over Martha's Vineyard and Vineyard Sound. That's like, ah, 30 miles from here.
We're still at a tropical storm watch. That should be changing real soon.
I'll be going sailing early tomorrow morning with the doc next door. His 50' boat will be coming out of the water in New Bedford at 9:15 sharp. I picked up extra beer this morning. I'm all set now. :)
Rick? Don't quit your day job.
I was just offering a public service announcement. Sheeesh.
Lookslike inland here in NJ we will only have some winds, the shore will have rough surf. So it will be a nice time to get our annual Labor day labors done around the neighborhood
For you coastal folks....When one of these blows comes through the news always shows anchored boats bobbing around in roughs seas. Why don't folks take those boats out of the water or sail them some place safer? Is it just easier to let nature take it's course and collect the insurance money?
Some take them inland. Some take them out of the water. Tethering a boat with a double or triple anchor set on either the bow or the stern is actually a pretty good method if you are not able to get it out of harms way. It will swing with the tides/currents. Gotta keep the bilge pumps going though. I think that most of the damage happens to boats moored in marinas. The tide/waves compromise the sides since they often cannot keep up with the rising tides or get banged to death on the docks. Fenders will fail when they are bouncing around violently.
My union voted to go on strike Tues. ... hmmm no work now, me and 4 other guys I work with are loading up the fishing gear and going for a daytrip to Cape Cod tomorrow...
I always have luck right before storms hit.... and hey with no work I say whip them rods and wet that line!!!
before you say anything.. we will be safe (4x4 oversand permits and surfcasting) and back at home before the storm rolls in..
I was just gonna say good luck fishing.:innocent:
Depends on lots of things, Rick. Can they find a boat yard that can accomodate the boat and pull it out of the water in time? Is it trailored? Can it be trailered, or does it require an 18 wheeler or larger to move? Is it stored in drydock in winter? Are the owners local or are they away? Not every larger boat in the area can be pulled out of the water in two days. The boatyards just aren't equipped to do that. They usually take over a month to get 'em all in and take 'em all out.
Other owners HOPE that the storm will pass far off the coast. Remember, we still have two good months left in our season, and pulling a boat out and putting it back in ain't cheap. Heck, annual dock fees alone for some medium sized yachts can run well over $20K around here.
In many cases, unless the eye passes directly overhead, a boat can be fairly safe in a protected area or secured well to a sturdy dock. In other cases, a strong deep water mooring can be a better bet than risking having it topple over on dry land.
And yeah, some owners are just lazy and stupid. :sneaky2:
Lookie at this. That little pink circle is right over my house. :innocent:

We're actually getting some rain tonight from some of the outter bands, or influenced by them. This is a huge storm that should not be taken lightly. I know nobody here is, but I also know that many will, saying - it won't hit here.
Thanks, Ken. I forgot about the fin keel thingie hanging down. I guess they do take a much larger trailer than a Ranger Bass Boat. If they got rid of all the tipi material up top they could probably saw that off.
I'm going to take the screen house down and gather all the loose stuff that's around the yard.I'm inland so it doesn't look all that bad,but who knows.
Hey, all of you kids in Mass! They just bumped us up to a Hurricane Warning.

Hunker down guys !!
Be safe out there guys!
Now don"t ask me why, but my last minute hurricane preps included going out and buying a whole mess of cold cuts and bread. Like 12 pounds of meat and 6 assorted loaves. Maybe I was thinking of a hurricane party? :innocent:
So about an hour ago, I opened the fridge to get some cream for my coffee, and that damn hard salami started screaming out my name.
The result was a salami on wheat with mustard. :) Cucumber chips on the side.
And THEN the liverwurst got loud. I quieted it down by suffocating some between 2 slices of country white. :blushing: The dogs helped out with a few slices of that stuff.
And THEN the mortadella started making noise - 2 more slices of country white took care of that problem. :sneaky2:
Now, I think the ham is beginning to get anxious. Fear not! The light rye and havarti cheese is ready!
The turkey, roast beef, and proscuitto still seem pretty docile at the moment. The 12 grain probably scared off the turkey and roast beef, and that Italian stick bread and the sweet peppers seem to be holding the proscuitto at bay.
I may have to run back to the deli tonight. :innocent:
LOL....on the way home, I picked up a ham, to cook on the grill.:blushing:
I got one of the little 7 pound ones, so I'll probably only have 4 or 5 pounds of it left over, in the fridge.:innocent:
Dang it, Ken....now you have me thinking about a big ol' pastrami and swiss, on rye....with brown mustard.
I may have to make another trip out.:sneaky2:
You probably need to get milk, bread and water.
Can't you two do anything by yourself?Quote:

Why? Because they claim that the wood and materials will contaminate the ocean!
I'm heading there in 5 minutes with a professional news video-photographer. I'll be collecting some evidence for the LAWSUIT that I'll probably be filing next week. :sneaky2: :sneaky2: :sneaky2: :sneaky2: :sneaky2:
Couldn't you just take them for a long walk off a short pier?
So, not only do you have to deal with the storm, but idiotic politics.
No wonder our state has such a bad wrap.
Good luck.......
Ken to the Rescue ! :innocent:
