Let's see what he comes up with. I squirreled away some black walnut about the same time and it is tough on a chain saw. I will have to inventory my stash, might have some fruit woods also. Could have sent a pine that blew down across the drive in KY, around 2 ft diameter. Just lots of trash wood to get rid of.
I got impatient (go figure) and wanted to try the driftwood to see how it turned out. I grabbed of my practice blades and here’s what I came up with. I didn’t put a moisture meter on the wood to see what the moisture content was, but figured what the heck. I coated the handles with mineral oil when done. Not sure how well they would hold up being a soft wood, but for something laying on the beach, they came out OK.

That looks great, like you said, I hope the soft wood holds up for you.
Crash, If being soft gives you trouble pick up some "Formby's" rotten wood stabilizer. It penetrates and hardens the wood very hard.
Not only do the scales look great, so does that knife.
Great looking knife Crash!!
The colors and grain are really nice!! I like that knife, does the soft (lighter) wood make the balance point to far forward or is it still good? Can I give a little bit of advice without sounding like a jerk? File or cut yout pins closer to the wood before you hit them to the belt and the wood wont burn and show black near the pins.
Thanks Cowboy - I'll keep that in mind.
Camp10 - I'm learning by trial and error. Any and all advice is welcome.
Crash, if not the stabilizer super glue worked for me. I really haven't beaten the handle much but it has held up well. I had a pack of several small tubes and gave it a try. After it hardened I used 600 grit old sandpaper and got a nice finish. I have never tried the Formby's.
