2dumb! you know what you can do with your pinkslip! seriously good for a laugh!
2dumb I am never bothered by you guys rhetoric! had a good laugh over here! I'll make sure and keep the horses & the little guy in the pics!
Back to my post...
I bought a 12' X 24' waxed canvas tarp for about $250, it looks like surplus but is new. It is black - 7 mils. I intend to build a huge frame under it and cover it with the tarp. pics forthcoming...
nice.
i've been looking for a similar canvas for my tipi [or my 'some indeterminable time in the future' gehr], but that price tag has been holding me back.
Yeah, right. http://i348.photobucket.com/albums/q...e/laughing.gifQuote:

Don't mess with the little guy!
Finally got over the flu bug and got a few dry days so I am back to work. I removed the bark with a flat blade shovel. Don't be fooled into thinking this is easy, it isn't...

Anyone notice anything odd in this pic?

Back at it today...
Nope Nothing at all.Everything looks normal except for your homemade hatchet handle being taped up. Didn't crack it did ya'?
Your horses are beautiful Cowboy.
If your missus is like my missus they ARE children!!! Spoiled, pampered,mothered,etc.... CS is it that your handles are home made? Shovel and hatchet that is? That handle looks good on the hatchet BTW.
Close enough! If you look close the shovel handle is square...I went to town 2X to buy a durn handle and came up empty 2X. So I made it from an old oak board. One benefit though it helped guide the blade as a round handle would twist in your gloves. The hatchet handle is wrapped with jute for firestarter and it will protect the handle should I miss! (Not likely)
So when are you going to trade the hatchet for a REAL wood working tool... a Tomahawk? LOL Just pickin' hope you're just Grinnin'!
I'd love to have a tomahawk, I am using what is at hand. This is why I am posting on a survival forum. For me it is rewarding to know I can make what I need. I suspect when I get around to it I will be forging my own! Yeah I am grinnin' and I know the little hatchet is lacking a bit...But has not failed me yet!
Have you thought about getting a Painter canvas Drop cloth and waterproofing it yourself? It would be about $20 for the canvas, plus price of waterproofing materials. That would leave a LOT of money compared to $250, in your pocket. I think that is the route I will go when we build some run-in sheds for our "four legged children". If I Tacked the canvas in place and then used roofing tar or some sealant like that it would still be a LOT cheaper.
I've seen some "Recipes" for making your own oilcloth and such. For a Tipi (Teepee) I would think that would be better. Plus since the canvas for the drop cloth is "natural" in color I would think it would work better for your needs. You could even dye it camouflage or whatever before you waterproof it.
